HEY ALL,
Do you think online jobs are legit, or are they frauds? There's a job listing that I found that is an online job (data entry, etc) that I'm interested, and it claims that I've got flexable hours, got paid well hourly, and I don't have to pay any fees to get into it. The only bad thing is that I would have to take out the taxes on my own when I get the checks. Should I do it or does it sound too good to be true?

Be careful, some of those ads are never clear on what the job is; that's how I ended up with that door-to-door job.

I know someone who works at home for the county in which she lives. So, sometimes they are legit, although, the legit ones are few and far between. But, she works from home online doing stuff for the courts, data entry kind of thing. And she has to take the taxes out herself. lol...which sucks.

If you have to pay - scam
if they say work part time and make 1000's of dollars then it's a scam |

The having to take out your own taxes means you're working as an indepented contractor. That's not uncommon for out-sourced work. I've done it. It takes a little studying up, but it's not too bad. Although, I'd say if your hourly wage is less than $10/hour, it's not worth it. If I were you, I'd investigate it further. Another thing... if you actually can do decent data-entry work... you might want to look into going to work for a temp agency. They tend to have a lot of part-time/short term data entry assignments.

Many jobs advertised online are legit. On a whole, an easy way to tell is to look at the type of info advertised. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Thanks you guys for your input.
I've asked a bunch of my friends too, and I've made the decision to go ahead with an interview (through AIM!) for Monday. However, I was very skeptical of this job because a.)The employer did not give me a phone number nor any address of the company. He didn't even give me a name, always referring it as "the company". b.) 30 bucks an hour, part time is a such a great deal that it sounds too good to be true. We'll see. If he answers my question, I'll go along with the interview.

Sounds like a scam, sorry. I've never heard of any legitimate company doing AIM interviews, either.

If during that he still doesn't give you a phone number or company name though... decline anything they offer. Well, $30/hour when you're taking out your own taxes and such is isn't as high as you think. After doing all the taxes it's more like $20/hour. During your interview, I would make sure to ask questions about time-keeping, etc. Specifically how the process works. How do you record and submit your time? One more thing... during the AIM interview, be sure you keep a firewall up and don't accept any sort of direct-connection unless you get a company name, address and phone number (and you can confirm it with a web search).
