Recently I've been getting more and more bored of Marvel and I've always enjoyed the Flash, Superman, Batman and, Green Lantern but I've never bothered picking up anything by them, the first and only DC comic I bought was "The Death of Superman" and I loved it. I don't have anything against DC, I just never bought anything by them and never really had any intrests in them until today.
Can anyone suggest any good Flash, Green Lantern, Superman and, Batman comics. They can be Justice League and please don't say "start at beginning". You can give me their most recent continuations. Thanks, Aesop.

I suggest........and I hate the guy now....but this was great......I suggest Kevin Smith's run on Green Arrow.
Now what you requested at all...but at a time when I was beggining to get bored with Marvel, this really opened my eyes to DC

"Green Lantern: Rebirth"
A good green lantern story. "Whatever happened to the man of tomorrow?" A different take on the end of Superman. "The dark knight returns" Frank Miller's vision of what happens when Bruce Wayne (and the DC world) gets old. "Saga of the swamp thing" The occult angle of DC is reborn here. |

Some great Bat books if you're wanting to get into the character are
Year One Long Halloween Dark Victory(sequel to Long Halloween) Haunted Knight The Dark Knight Returns The Killing Joke The Man Who Laughs Arkham Asylum For Superman, pick up All-Star Superman. If you're a fan of Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, you'll love it.

In terms of graphic novels, it was the double-header of The Long Halloween and The Killing Joke that converted me to DC Comics.
In terms of current ongoing comic books, I'd pick up this week's Green Lantern #43, and use that as a launching pad for getting into The Blackest Night, which due to the scheduling of the main book and its tie-ins, is set to become pretty much a weekly event.

Kingdom Come and Justice, for Justice League.
You've already been given the Bat-essentials, but I'll add Hush and Broken City. The Joker graphic novel that just came out is also really good, but very little Batman in it. And a Superman...For Tomorrow. |

Agreed. The Rogue Profile he did of Captain Cold probably stands as his single best issue on that Flash run.

Also, Superman: Birthright is a great story, and is the first time I liked the idea of Luthor being in Smallville during Clark's youth. The Timmiverse Justice League after the first season, and all of the JLU seasons are awesome, as well. |

There are plenty of Superman stories that are great, here are some others:
Exile Read World Without and The Return Of Superman also. Kingdom Come is a must For Tomorrow Volume 1 and 2 are superb as well Godfall, The Journey, Sacrifice and Up, Up and Away are great as well, but they are part of an ongoing series so you might get confused.

Also, and I might be mistaken as I wasn't super familiar with any of the characters before I read it, but I don't think you need a lot of backstory within the DCU to follow around, as most of the characters are either new people using an old name, or the history and stuff is covered in the story itself. |

I'm a casual DC reader at best, but I'll say you should jump right onboard and read Blackest Night. Good first issue, and hey, I haven't read any Green Lantern stuff. Ever.
Eeeeeeeeeevvvvvvvver.

Anything that says both JLA and either Morrison, Waid, or Kelly on the cover is pretty much the best thing I can recommend to show you why the DC universe is great. Also, Waid's run on Flash and Kelly's run on Superman were phenomenal and helped me go from a casual fan of some DC characters to having a deep love for the DC universe as a whole.
