Seem to me this is Millar's take on Superman. Authority style? All will be revealed in this month's Wizard magazine (number 228)

Millar's Icon stuff doesn't have his top notch dialogue compared to Ultimates or Red Son for example, i do believe he drops the F bomb too much, but saying his comics don't have a plot is pretty stretching it. >_>

What I've seen of NEMESIS, and what I read of KICK-ASS, don't exactly want me to rush out and give Millar an Eisner.

Just giving the comic fans some great comics for the easy price of 2.99 and also giving %50 profits to the artists, which is why he's getting A-Quality artists on his Icon Books, compared to some other loved writers that SHH loves, who don't even give 40% to the artists.

I would love for Millar to really surprise people and actually make a hero who hasn't gone mad or turned evil or is evil or whatever the **** cynical ideas he comes up with and actually tries to write some heroic stuff. Of course, I doubt that's what it'll be. Probably not, I'm sure we're just in for another deconstruction of a Superman archetype. Yay

You know I actually hope that this is just straight-up pastiche of Superman. Surprisingly, Millar writes a very good Superman.

The moral of a lot of Millar stories, from ULTIMATES to KICK-ASS, is that there is no such thing as a genuinely heroic, noble person. Everyone, even the most celebrated bad guy kicker in the world, is an unlikeable d-bag if you really got to know him or her. There are some artists where, after seeing how they draw, you think, "Have they ever met a real woman?" With Millar, it is, "Has he ever met a real person, instead of simply watching Hollywood's rendition of what people are?" He's like an alien who only did partial research on the human race, like a Skrull from the 2006 Fantastic Four cartoon. So, I wouldn't expect SUPERIOR to be a paragon of virtue quite yet. He may start out as one, until the situation (usually led by some conservative a-hole) makes him take off the kid gloves.
The best run of his I've read in a while was his FANTASTIC FOUR run, which was more restrained than something such as KICK-ASS. And even that was hardly stellar.

Thor was a hero in the Ultimate universe, and he even saw what Nick Fury was planning. Sure Thor pretty much demanded Bush to donate cash to Green Peace and whatnot, but Thor was one true hero of the Ultimate Universe.

You gotta hand it to Millar, say what you will but he sure as hell knows how to market his own work. Thats why Hollywood loves his work.

Yeah, you have to give him that much. He's figured out that if you act the rock star part, you get the rock star attention and hype, positive or otherwise. It'll be interesting to see if Hollywood is still so love with him after Kick-Ass under performed in the box office. And, yes, Drz, I know that DVD sales could change that, but as far as the box office and the right now, it did underwhelming numbers.

28 million budget movie making 90 million (and rising up) world wide is a bad thing now?

I know I shouldn't have said anything, it always leads to something like this when it's related to Millar...
The movie had a 30 million dollar budget and was independently financed. It was bought by Lionsgates for about 20 million, and the marketing was probably around 20-25 million (which I believe is the considered average for budgeting a movie), so we're looking at it needing to make around 70 million to break even, which means it's not even made it's full budget yet theatrically. So, unless those numbers are totally off, it under performed. At best, even if those numbers are slightly off, it's just now breaking even with its budget or making a small bit of profit Didn't we go over this once anyway?

Still you're excepting a small independed movie to become a major box office hit? Theres a good difference between 28 million flick to something like Wanted which had a 75 million budget. Kick-Ass numbers are still rising, so why looking at this so pessimisticly? The Box Office in US, while presumebly disappointing, is still fairly solid and good.
What does this have to do with Superior again may i ask? |

$45 for the US box office is not solid, it's pretty low really. And Kick-Ass is mostly dead at the box office. It's moved out of most theaters and the home media release will probably follow later. At the most it'll make another 10 million, but I highly doubt it. Besides, this has nothing to do with my expectations anyhow. Quote:

Kick Ass did very well AND was a #1 film at the box office. I'd say the studios are quite happy with Millar. Of course, it could have done better but it did good enough for the movie studio's to have faith in Millar's work. I'm willing to bet we'll see a Nemesis movie announced fairly soon.

Millar says how Red Son fans will love Superior. This should be further proof that this is Millar's take on Superman with a Red Son style take.
