Well, the thing is, not ALL terrorist acts are radical Islamists. If you want this to be a discussion of acts of terrorism, ok....but as the title is right now, it is in and of itself a bash Islam thread just by the title. I'm changing the title to reflect a more general discussion of terrorism.

The Tri-Border area has been a big funding hub for the likes of Hezbollah and HAMAS. My belief it is more efficient to nail their black market economies to stifle them significantly. And do something about Hawalas, one of the few ways to circumvent any need for money laundering.

Roadside bomb kills 9 Afghan civilians, wounds 4

LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Nine civilians were killed and four others sustained injuries as a roadside bomb struck a mini-bus in troubled Helmand province south of Afghanistan, spokesman for provincial administration Daud Ahmadi said Wednesday.

"The gruesome incident organized by Taliban militants took place in Marja district Tuesday afternoon leaving nine innocent commuters dead including women and children and wounded four others," Ahmadi told Xinhua.

Taliban militants have yet to make comment. Marja, a former base of Taliban, was captured by government forces in February.

This is the third such violent incident over the past one week. In the previous incident which took place in the neighboring Nad Ali district on last Monday five civilians were killed and four others sustained injuries.

An explosion days ago in a bazaar in the neighboring Garmsir district left 21 civilians injured.

A "new wave" of terror is upon us, apparently. I just don't understand these people.

Its actually quite simple. If you read the article you can see that these terrorists were former rebels who took over Somalia and were then deposed by a US/UN backed coupe. Now they want revenge on those responsible for deposing them.

Similar thing happenned in Afghanistan over 10 years ago. The Taliban had approximately 92% of the country at the time. 2000 of their fighters were killed in cold blood by Northern Alliance rebels who reneged on a peace treaty and ended up going on a killing spree on unarmed Taliban fighters and sympathisizers of the Pashtun ethnicity. That rebel group was being financed by Iran, Russia, Uzbekistan, and India. The Taliban managed to take over that region the following year and got revenge on the rebels and local populace; Meanwhile they found 9 Iranian diplomats (most likely spies) and executed them on the spot. This almost triggered a war with Iran.

The Iranians most likely were diplomats as well, but because they aided in deposing the Taliban from that region a year before, they were executed along with the Northern Alliance fighters who were unlucky to be still in that region. Its a form of collective punishment.

Not all terrorists are Islam. There's FARC in Columbia and ETA in the Basque region of Spain and France. Should not be limited to terror groups that are Muslim.

Don't forget the IRA as well, as they committed terror activities all throughout Great Britain.

Non-Islamic related, but a terror group nonetheless:

MADRID – The Basque separatist militant group ETA declared a cease-fire in a video statement issued Sunday, suggesting it might turn to a political process in its quest for an independent homeland.

The video, which appeared in Basque newspaper Gara's website and was also made available to the British broadcaster BBC, showed three masked militants making a statement in Basque. Gara accompanied the video with a transcription of the statement in Basque and Spanish.

There was no immediate response from Spanish government, but the El Pais newspaper, whose editorial line is closely aligned with the ruling Socialist party, said the government had called for "caution."

The newspaper said on its website that Interior Minister Alferdo Perez Rubalcaba had been in touch with the Basque regional government to assess the statement, especially considering that ETA's statement did not say that the group would give up its weapons.

"ETA makes it known that as of some months ago it took the decision to no longer employ offensive armed actions," the statement said, suggesting it was ready to pursue a "democratic process" to achieve its goals.

ETA is seeking an independent Basque homeland in northern Spain and southwestern France. It is considered a terrorist organization by the European Union and the U.S. It has killed more than 825 people since the late 1960s.

The militant group has declared cease-fires before, but none of them has led to the end of Europe's last major armed militancy.

The group last announced what it called a "permanent cease-fire" in March 2006, but on Dec. 30 of the same year the organization set off a powerful car bomb at Madrid's Barajas international airport that killed two people. After the Dec. 30 bombing, the government had said it would not negotiate with the group again.

ETA's statement came days after two Basque pro-independence parties asked the group to declare "an internationally verifiable cease fire." One of the parties, Batasuna, was outlawed by authorities in 2003 on the grounds that it was ETA's political wing.

It was not clear whether the new truce offer is permanent or whether ETA is signaling it is ready for peace talks with the government of Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.

Rubalcaba had said Friday he was expecting a cease-fire statement from ETA.

The militant group has been weakened by the arrests of several of its top leaders in Spain, France and Portugal, where a bomb-making factory was discovered and dismantled by police in February.

The last time ETA struck in Spain was July 2009, when a blast widely blamed on them killed two policemen in the resort island of Mallorca.

But the group is suspected of having shot and killed a French police officer near Paris in March.

Gara quoted an ETA statement at the time saying the shooting happened because French police had "kidnapped four ETA militants."

French police said they had captured the men during a suspected car theft.

Jundullah has connections with the CIA. They are a Baluchi separatist group, also responsible for drug smuggling from Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Baluchis are split between all three nations and only have beef with Pakistan and Iran.

They are another tragedy of post-colonial border creation; like the Kurds.

Blast at funeral kills five Afghans

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- An explosion hit a funeral killing five mourners and injuring 20 others in Helmand province in southern Afghanistan, spokesman for provincial administration Daud Ahmadi said Monday.

"A group of mourners were busy burying a relative at a graveyard in Sarwan Qala village of Sangin district on Saturday when a bomb went off suddenly killing five on the spot and injuring 20 others," Ahmadi told Xinhua.

He blamed Taliban insurgents for carrying out the blast, saying the village is in Taliban control.

Explosion wounds 27 civilians in southern Afghan province

GHAZNI, Afghanistan, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Over two dozen civilians were injured as a mine planted by Taliban militants went off Saturday night in southern Afghan province of Ghazni, deputy provincial police chief Mohammad Hussain said Sunday.

"The bomb planted and detonated by Taliban next to a mosque in Ghazni city the capital of Ghazni province Saturday night wounded 27 civilians all innocent, during prayers," Hussain told Xinhua.

All the victims have been taken to hospital and they are in stable conditions.

A car bomb blast in the neighboring Kandahar province Saturday night left one dead and 11 others injured.

A suicide bomber has killed at least 16 people and wounded 100 others at a market in Vladikavkaz in southern Russia, officials say. Russia's North Caucasus region has been beset by Islamist/separatist violence and the area around the market in Vladikavkaz has been targeted before.
