I just asked this in the speculation thread, and I think it is a very interesting discussion to have. So, I am giving it a thread
![]() While technically a sequel question, I will keep this thread here until the Cap hype dies down a bit...then it will get moved to the sequel forum. So, place your bets! If Captain America gets a sequel, will JJ be back? Do you want him back? Discuss!!!

My initial reaction would be if he gets the character right in the first movie and it's a success then absolutely he should try his hand at a sequel.

So are we positive that the Cap sequel would be modern-day? I remember one of the writers saying last week that there are more 40s adventures we won't see in the first film that they left as room to operate.
If its gonna be another period piece, I'd want Johnston back and hopefully Namor can be introduced during Cap II

I also doubt he will comeback for it. Now, I think that is less damaging than if Branagh doesn't comeback for Thor 2. This Cap film has a lot of distance from where the series likely will go, so a director change I don't think hurts it as much.
But, I can't really say whether or not I want him back til I see the movie. But, I will say that JJ's films tend to have great cinematography, which is something that could be hurt a bit in a Cap sequel if he left.

It depends on the story I think. If he likes the script, he'll probably be back.

also: He might not come back if the second one is not a period piece most of the time. JJ is great with period pieces and that is probably why Marvel wanted him for the first one. If the second movie is set in the present, they might want to contact another director. So, really, it comes down to the script. plotwise and qualitywise

Direct sequels to the storyline of Cap in the present: JJ probably won't be back and even if this 1st film is a smash it won't be that big a deal. One-shots and such about Cap back in WWII: Yeah, he might return for that(perhaps to show the first Baron Zemo, the Invaders, Namor, etc.). But much is still up in the air and largely depends on this film doing well.

I mean, it's said that there'll be a montage comprised of Steve's adventures with the Howling Commandos during the WWII era, and that important things that could be used for the sequel, could have taken placed during that specific time period that the audience didn't get a chance to see. If the antagonistic threat is especially comprised of a force that started back from that time period that's been waiting for revenge on CA, then all the more reason and space to use WWII elements as well. |

I hope they'll bring Batroc in the game, cause, honestly, that would be very awesome! I'm already imagining some intense action sequence with lots of parkour, savat & many more tricks from the famous leaper's sleeve.

LOL! I have not seen anyone mention Batroc in ages
![]() I think a Hydra agent named Batroc would be cool in a Cap sequel.

It would be cool to see a Casino Royale-esque sequence where Cap is running after the guy using parkour to get around and ending up in a throwdown at the end.

Copy/paste from News thread: If... BIG IF... they are going the Winter Soldier scenario for the sequel I say give it to Kurt Wimmer. Spies, Soviets, in your face action and tense emotional conflict. Yep, Wimmer can deliver that

If the movie is a big enough hit, then I think Marvel would try to push on getting him back. I personally think JJ would want to do it, he understands the character and has much respect for him, and also he would still get to do some WWII stuff as mentioned the movie would have flashbacks.
Marvel tries to keep directors around, unless they have major problems with them. I would like the Cap sequels to have the same feel and tone as the first one, regardless of if its in modern day.
