Default The 1994 Spider-Man show

I think it's pretty good. I haven't seen all the episodes yet, but they're all on YouTube and I plan on buying the first season on iTunes. I'm hoping they will release all the episodes on dvd by the time The Amazing Spider-Man comes out. What do you guys think?

All episodes are on NetFlix free streaming for members. I watch a few every night on my PS3.

All 5 seasons are available on Amazon.co.uk, they're all region 2.
I watched them all back to back last year, still is a great show, despite the hate it gets now because of the awesomeness that was The Spectacular Spider-Man

I grew up with this series and it introduced me to Spidey's world. But it really hasn't aged that well. The first season was the best, but afterwards is when things started to go downhill. I could never hate it though.

I really didn't like that a C/D-list villain like Morbius ended up having more screentime than Norman Osborn's GG, Venom, Hobgoblin, Mysterio, Vulture, Rhino, and Shocker.

I know this was posted awhile ago, but most of the hate the 90s show gets seems to be because a lot of SSM haters don't explain their reasons in a mature matter. They will bash the show without anything to back it up with. They bash it for being a "kiddy show" and then praise the 90s for being "mature." When ironically SSM had less censorship. I've seen elitists douches even go as far as bashing the fans of SSM. It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of these guys never even watched one episode. They probably just took one look at the designs and hated it right then and there.

So yeah, when 90s nostalgics start putting down SSM for no apparant reason other than to make TAS look better, I can see people hating TAS just to spite them. There were times when I actually wanted to join them.

It's better than SS-M in some respects. The animation is the only thing that doesn't measure up consistently. The voice acting was great. Every episode is packed with story and plot, there's always something going on, and the characters are complex.

Venom Returns and Carnage are my favorite episodes, since they're the best examples of the things I mentioned above.

I am very nostalgic for this show, love it. This and The Spectacular Spider-Man are my two favorites.

Honestly, rewatching some of the various Spidey cartoons over the years the only one that I really don't like is the MTV show. Unlimited isn't even as bad as I remember, it has some good redeeming qualities to it.

It had its good points overall. Season One was the only one I would go so far as to call great.

I know all of these episodes are online, but I'd still love to own the show on DVD. I hope there's plans for it to come out next year with the new film.

Doubt it. If it hasn't happened in all this time. Plus, the series centered on a college-age Spidey in love with Mary Jane. The movie has a teenage Spidey in love with Gwen. The lack of similarity hurts the chances of such a promotion.

He's still a teen below twenty in that show, but I see the high school/college difference

I love the show, one of my favorite cartoons, and proud to say I watched it fully more than once. There are some badly delivered lines, but I think voice acting is generally well done

the cgi doesn't hold up and the laser guns and no hitting kinda take away from the show. when you compare it to batman TAS that had hitting, real guns, and blood. also the art and animation was way better. and these to shows were out at the same time.

The thing it had over BTAS was the fact it had an ongoing story from s2 onwards. BTAS had follow up eps, with direct ref to previous stories, like with Clayface and Ras Al Ghul, but it's a shame they focused on self contained stories for the most part.
I guess that was more along the lines of the comics that preceded the shows actually, SM always had that ongoing soap opera thing.

I transferred all my vhs recordings from the early90s onto dvd, but my tapes of s1 were worn out, I thought s2 was best though, as it had the Neogenic Nightmare ongoing arc, with all the guest appearances from the X-Men, Blade, the Punisher....and my friend and I used to always get a right good laugh out of Morbius, all i have to do is think of him saying 'Plaaasssmaaaa!!!I neeeed Plaasssmmaaa!!!' and I get a smile on my face. My friend actually wrote asong that we got onto record called 'Plasma' in tribute to that, lol, we just played his tune, stopped, and then he would scream 'Plaaasssmaaa!!!' through one of those plastic toy microphones with the big echo.

The six armed Spider-man story was superior to the one in the comics I thought, that was just a riot, as hokey as that is somewhat conceptually, man, it was so good in the toon, I would not mind seeing that story tackled in a film someday.

The adaptation of 'Turning Point' was quite remarkable I thought, incorporating a couple of Goblin stories, the animation was top notch for that one too, they came up with a great way of circumventing the tv rules by coming up with that dimension hopping device.

I need to see s1 again, but it was more stand alone eps I seem to recall, and I could not stand the Spider-Slayers, lol, if there is anything that puts me off a sh cartoon it is having the hero fight big robots, hell, even in live action, I don't like it much.

I was good to see the Fantastic Four done in a decent cartoon form on this show as well, even if Secert Wars was not up to scratch. They wanted more X-Men for that arc, but it turned out the one voice cast member they could get ahold of was the woman who played Storm.
It was good to see the Iron-Man crossover, and Black -Cat was well adapted I thought, holy moses she was built well.

I thought the ending was fantastic though, even if it was unresolved, and they planned another season, the story with all the Spider-men from alternate dimensions was a joy to see onscreen, all of them arguing, seeing all the different costumes onscreen, the rich, arrogant Stark like one was particularly amusing to see, considering Pete never had money in our reality.

edit: oh, and i forgot about the 3 part symbiote story in s1, I mean, that improved on the comics, and brought in the aspect of it altering his personality. Much better than the books(although the issue when the FF remove the suit is a classic), and the movie adaptation.

Ultimate Spider-Man Animated in the same year, having MJ instead of Gwen, maybe they should release it

I love this show and remember being excited for the first episode(Night of the Lizard,I believe),but when I watch it now some things bother me. The biggest thing is the animation. You can obviously see that some animation shots were used over and over again in different episodes. And some episodes are better than others(animation wise). Plus I don't hate certain little things like no punches being thrown and no bullets in the guns, but lasers;etc, etc.
But overall,I do like it. A great addition to the Spidey legacy.

This is the show that got me into comics so of course it has a special place in my heart. It's second best behind Spectacular in quality but still great and surprisingly so considering all the restrictions put on it.

Oen of my favorite episodes of TAS was actually the very first eipisode Night of The lizard. It's only one of my many favorites. Such a great show and it was what introduced me to Spider-Man.

Like I said, The Spectacualar Spider-Man IS the better show and I perfer it, IMO, but I will always have a soft spot for TAS because I still love it.

Anyone else wonder why Venom had that weird combination red/blue shading?

After all symbiote Spider-Man had some nice blue highlighting that really looked glossy and interesting.

Why didn't they didn't they just use that for Venom?

"Doctor Octopus, Armed and Dangerous" & "Hydroman" had similar animation, same goes with symbiote episode 1
