Default Cliff Robertson R.I.P.

Splendid actor. He will be missed.

Quote:
Cliff Robertson, who starred as John F. Kennedy in a 1963 World War II drama and later won an Academy Award for his portrayal of a mentally disabled bakery janitor in the movie "Charly," died Saturday, one day after his 88th birthday.

Robertson, who also played a real-life role as the whistle-blower in the check-forging scandal of then-Columbia Pictures President David Begelman that rocked Hollywood in the late 1970s, died at Stony Brook University Medical Center on Long Island, according to Evelyn Christel, his longtime personal secretary. His family said he died of natural causes.

In a more than 50-year career in films, Robertson appeared in some 60 movies, including "PT 109," "My Six Loves," "Sunday in New York," "The Best Man," "The Devil's Brigade," "Three Days of the Condor," "Obsession" and "Star 80."

More recently, he played Uncle Ben Parker in the "Spider-Man" films.

Throughout his career, Robertson worked regularly in television, including delivering an Emmy Award-winning performance in "The Game," a 1965 drama on "Bob Hope Presents the Chrysler Theatre."

A full obituary will follow at latimes.com/obits.

R.I.P.

He was a wonderful Uncle Ben and a great actor all around. I remember him starring in the 60's Adam West Batman show, too, as a villainous cowboy called Shame.

He will be remembered by the comic book fans.

Default Cliff Robertson (Uncle Ben) passes away at 88.

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=81954

RIP you were a great Uncle Ben in Sam's trilogy.

If this is moved into the Sam's Trilogy part I understand, but figuring this is the most viewed area of the Spidey boards it would be nice to have in here.

Such a sad scene that works for many reasons including Cliff's great acting abilities.

The first time I ever heard the phrase "with great power, comes great responsibility," the words were spoken by Cliff Robertson. His staged death in 2002 made those words sink in, and they never left me. Nine years later, his real death serves as a reminder of the emotional punch that the first Spider-Man movie has always had on me, and what a powerful actor he was.

Thanks, Cliff.
Thanks, Uncle Ben.

I watched two of his Shame episodes last night after I heard this news. He was hilariously brilliant in Batman.

Adam West said in his autobiography that he became great friends with Cliff after he was on the show.

I loved the scene with him talking to Peter in SM2. That was very well done and powerful.

Agreed, love that scene.
Spider-Man 2 just came on TV last weekend as well.
Makes it even more shocking.
When I went on the homepage, I was i genuine shock, I shouted "WHAT? NO WAY!"

Gives the old saying even more impact, "noone in comics stays dead except Uncle Ben"
