Was Matrix the lifeform Superboy inadvertently killed?

I know in the silver age, Lex created an artificial lifeform, and Superboy's accidental destruction of it is one of the main sources of Lex's hatred of him. And the pocket universe is based off silver age Earth. But in the pocket universe, the lab accident never happened, Superboy was killed before that fateful event came to pass, and Matrix is said to be a protoplasmic lifeform created by that Lex. I've not read any comics relating to the pocket universe, only what I've read on sites like Wikipedia, so there's a lot of details I don't know.
