Default The official Spider-Man questions thread

We all have questions; let's join together by helping each other to answers Spider-Man questions.

Here's a question: I want to start collecting The Amazing Spider-Man from issue 1 - present. Now I know I can't afford certain issues due to the crazy prices, so re-print of issues are in order. Will I need to buy the older issues in graphic novel form, or do Marvel re-print these old comics for sale? What's the best way to approach this task?

Cheapest? The Essential tbs are good, but in black in white. This is what I started with back in the day.

Marvel Masterworks can be pricey. There is a cd rom you can buy online that has something like the first 400 issues.

I have the "The Amazing Spider-Man: The Complete Collection" CD rom. It has every issue of Amazing up to June 2006 and all of the ASM annuals. Look for it on Amazon.

Aloha,
Yes that is a great set. However, it only has Amazing Spider-Man and there are tie in stories within Spectacular, Web and even Spider-Man Unlimited that are not on disk. Not to be smug but ultimately, you can only be a COMIC BOOK collector, with Comic books.Digital comics will never replace the real thing.Part of the joy of being a comic book collector is finding the best deals on various issues of your collection. I have a digital version of my complete collection .

I agree, to a point. I'm a comic collector, but I'm also practical. I'm not going to pay thousands of dollars for one comic. The CD rom is also a space saver, as I'm sure you know that a large collection can take up a lot of room.

And yes, the major drawback of the CD rom is that it only collects ASM.

I was liking digital for a while, but for some reason, my issues of Spider-Man vanished. It goes to show, you can buy these comics, but they'll never really be truly yours. on top of that, itunes won't accept my credit card anymore. I got my free train pass, so i'll be traveling two hours to get my read on.

I think I'm going to buy some Masterworks.

Yeah, if you just want to read those stories, the CD is great. I could never afford all those back issues, so its my only option.

Here's a question; on some level, would you be happy if the Spider-Man books ended definitively? I think I would actually. You'd get an ending and at least you'd have assurances that the characters and saga wouldn't get dragged out for infinity with deaths and resurrections, continuity further convoluted and retconned, or just the same old stories recycled. It'd be kinda neat to see it end. Especially if he could get back with MJ and find his baby without writers worrying about that impacting their stories. And there could always be untold stories from his past, if Spidey withdrawal kicked in. Just my thoughts.

Yes and no. I like what is being done in Ultimate Spider-Man and Amazing. 616 Spidey gets to go on indefinitely but in Ultimate, we get a more realistic ending. A teenager fights crime and dies. Another person gets inspired by his sacrifice and takes up where he left off. I like that.

This way we get the best of both worlds.

Spider-Man story ended in Sensational v2 last issue (that thing before QMD), Peter and MJ had a family

This new guy is just there, I like his stories

How did The Green Goblin kill Spider-Man anyway?

I think it's selfish to want a finite ending for Spider-Man... by all rights, his adventures should have ended with ASM #200 when everything came full circle... and that would have been fine by me becasue I had started reading the books a few years before...but what about the 80's kids... and more importantly, what about the majority of you 90's kids that starting reading then?

Inasmuch as we would like closure, we'll never get one because we'd be denying the next generation all things that are Spidey greatness.

He didn't...Spidey took a bullet fired by the Punisher meant for Captain America. Then, after patching himself up with webbing, ran off to fight Gobby and his pals. The webbing ripped and he bled out during the fight.

Would I like if there was a definite ending? No, and it isn't something I ever really thought about. Spider-Man was there before I was born and will be there after I die. If people stopped telling stories about him, it would suck.
