Well, I was thinking of this because I'd recently watched Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (Pronounced Destroyer, as in the monster came from the Oxygen Destroyer weapon that killed the original Godzilla.) which is pretty much your standard Kaiju movie with monsters fighting each other and landmarks crumbling. But it's the end of the movie that really stands out. This 1996 movie was going to be the last Toho Godzilla movie because Tristar was supposed to have taken the baton from them to make their American Godzilla movies, and failed miserably. So Toho planned this to be the official last movie and it was decided that Godzilla would die at the end. Well, indeed Godzilla does melt down and to diehard Godzilla fans it is an emotional moment, but what really drives home the moment is Akira Ifukube's score. He was the master of Godzilla scoring and he does not disappoint with his Requiem for the Japanese cinema legend. It makes me cry every time because of that score, and I'm not ashamed to say that. If you'll forgive the awful dub just listen and watch this scene:
VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:
Another scene that Akira Ifukube scored with a mournful melody that makes me tear up is the choral tribute to the victims of Godzilla's rampage in the original Gojira. The man was a master Japanese composer.

![]() Agreed! Oh boy; i remember when i first watched this one. I wasnt ready at all! It caught me off guard and i had to get up and stop watching it lol. I must add a few others: - Terms of Endearment, when Debra Winger's character says goodbye to her kids. - The Green Mile; the whole ending just gets to me. - The Lion King, when Mufasa dies. - Big Fish; again, the last 10 minutes or so. - Marley & Me; when Marley dies. It reminds me of my dog that died the same way ![]() - Old Yeller - Dead Poets Society; everything after Neil dies until the end lol.

In no particular order:
1. When Luke is making is last trench run in a New Hope & you hear Obi-Wan's voice saying "Use the Force Luke" 2. When Malone is dying & Ness is trying to save him in The Untouchables. 3. The scene where E.T. is saying his farewells to everybody & finally boards the mothership. 4. When David is questioning the aliens about bringing back his mother in A.I. 5. When William Wallace is being tortured & finally screams FREEDOM, at the end of Braveheart. 6. At the end of Saving Private Ryan when Captain Miller is slowly dying & Reiben is screaming for a medic. (the whole ending when all of Capt. Miller's squad is slowly being killed off) 7.The ending of the Outlaw Josey Wales when he's bleeding a little & Fletcher tells him that the war is over.

I loved the original, non-musical, serious Land Before Time as a kid and still think it's a solid family movie. Then they ruined the series by making those awful sequels into stupid musicals and milked it for all it was worth with all those singing dinosaurs.

Wtf Inception ending are you lot serious?
Pfft Can't believe no one's said these: Terminator 2: Judgement Day - Even before he's lowered into the Molten Lava the bit where he says to John Connor; "I know now why you cry... but it is something I could never do" is just a tear jerking moment in itself. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within - Epic ending for an under-rated movie. Very well done and one for the open minded. E.T. The Extra-terrestrial - All time saddest moment and even now tear jerking, thank god they haven't made a sequel that's probably why the film is still so epic! A.I. - When they bring back the boys mother for one day right at the end is very very surreal and dream like and has a very deep sad feeling to it, specially since there are no humans left, a brilliant brilliant very deep and sad ending. Starman - Jeff Bridges returns home but leaves Jenny, a romantic and sad ending even now years later the relationship they build over the course of the film only for that ending is heart breaking! Alien 3 - For an exceptional ending to an awesome Trilogy of films, the 3rd film very under-rated and misinterpreted because of it's very dark under tones and gully look. One of the best dark films of all time. Knowing - When Nicholas Cage realizes that giving up the only thing he loves most in the world his Son to protect him from the coming events to the earth is very touching and seems like a very real response, could you give up a child like that? Specially in those circumstances, you would be so confused. Excellent touching ending. Leon: The Professional - When Matilda plants his best friend and "Shape of my Heart" begins to play I actually welled up the first time. Pans Labyrinth - When Ofelia dies at the end, the haunting music that plays is just mockery to your senses and has to make you well up unless you were born in a prison. Brother - When Takeshi "Beat" Kitano dies at the end to the Mafia and the music by Joe Hiasashi plays out. Marvellous movie! There are more but these are the only ones that come to mind for now.

Some of these I have mentioned in the other threads here. Not all of these are sad, in fact often I find positive moments as moving as negative ones.
Rudy finally getting in a game for two plays and getting carried off the field in his last game of eligibility - Rudy Everyone standing in silence around the world watching the clock and television waiting for the Odyssey to show up and then the parachutes open and everyone simultaneously breaks into cheers. - Apollo 13 Ray playing catch with his father. - Field of Dreams The hit on Fredo off-screen on Lake Tahoe with Michael watching through the window. - The Godfather Part II Bambi calling for his mother in the middle of a blizzard when his father shows up and delivers for my money the most powerful line in any Disney film. "Your mother can't be with you anymore." - Bambi Puyi going back to his palace as a tourist and then the tour guide sums up his entire life (which we spent the last three hours watching) in two sentences. - The Last Emperor Chuck Yeager's final flight in the film where he attempts to reach outer space. - The Right Stuff |

Sophie's Choice when she tells Stengo what happened in the concentration camp.
Lorenzo's Oil when Susan Sarandon tells her son if the pain get's too much that it's okay to fly away . . . I get weepy just thinking about it.

With Honors
The scene at the end where Monty is reading Simons obituary. The movie came out as j was graduating high school and a very dear friend of mine was not going to graduate because his cancer had forces him to miss too many days. He didn't survive his second senior year. |
