Default Tom Cruise in...The Magnificent Seven

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=90498

I am morbidly curious as to how this will turn out. Cruise has yet to do a western I think.

I still need to see the Steve McQueen version after seeing The Seven Samurai, which really wasn't all that great.

They got to get one hell of a cast for this though.

Why are they remaking such a classic western film?

Well, hey, a remake of a remake.

Remake the original so it evens out.

So, they're doing a remake of a remake of Seven Samurai, on top of a remake of Seven Samurai.

Talk about double redundancy.

Meh, I don't care for another film with this story. The only way this will grab me is if all seven leads are some great and popular actors and not some nobody's.

Yes I realize nobody's should get their shot and they could turn out to be amazing actors, but this is one of those movies like Expendables or Oceans 11 where they can bank on this film with a well known phenomenal cast.

Still the film should not be remade again. Well I will wait for more information, who knows it might be good. Hopefully it helps make the western genre popular again.

I can't see this working out. I assume Cruise will be in the Yul Brynner role.

It seems has of late that Cruise is just picking roles that seem like an odd fit for him Jack Reacher Van Helsing and now this.

I dunno, I'm really curious to see what other names they get attached to this. Be nice to see an ensemble cast.

The Magnificent Seven
Battle Beyond the Stars
A Bug's Life

While I doubt that this is going to be a speck on Kurosawa's film, the framework of the story is so elemental that it's easy to hang a new version on. They've arguably remade it successfully three times, what's the harm in a 4th?

Daniel Craig better play McQueen's role.

I'm more interested in that Seven Samurai remake taking place in modern day Thailand. It seems more natural than doing another western.

But I haven't heard a thing about it in years.

The Magnificent Seven, with Tom Cruise....
....featuring Vin Diesel as Yul Brynner's character, and Statham in Coburn's role. And Bernstein's classic score "updated" with a dubstep remix.

Good gawd....
I *really* want to see Westerns make a real comeback, but this has "Bad Idea" written all over it in letters as big as those on Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp's "TONTO (and the lone ranger)"

I'm willing to bet big money that it will be a modern movie with the same title and not at all a western. If so, I actually can see Statham playing one of those characters, not for a western though since he can't do an American accent to save his life.

I'm not sure the premise works in 2012, though. Maybe if the Seven were mercenaries in some Third World country....that's about the only analogue I could come up with. But we've already got "The Expendables 2," so.....yeah

True, but they could always make it work in some other way. It might not even be seven guys helping some piss poor community but something else.

Either way I'll wait to hear who will be starring as well as the synopsis for the film before I make a full judgement.

Tom Hardy is the modern day Coburn! Statham would be Charles Bronson! I feel you're underselling those action guys though. There's a reason they do this for a living.

No, but seriously, Figs has the right idea. Team up some A-listers with some character actors. Cruise could attract a master director who is capable of doing an ensemble western.

Also Nicolas Cage. He needs to do a film with Tom Cruise.

Because some of them cannot act that good?
