Snow White and the Huntsman: My review: 7/10 (Letter grade - C)
The movie starts off strong but loses momentum by the second act. By the third act, it felt strangely rushed; things just kinda happened. That being said, I give the film high marks for the visuals. The cinematography was awesome (I like the deep colors and lighten contrast) and the CG was almost seamless. That's from a big CG critic. The cast was good but Kristen Stewart (who wasn't bad) didn't do a whole lot. So when she makes that rousing war speech in the film, she didn't earn it because it came out of no where. Chris Hesworth was serviceable, the dwarves are underused, and my Lord, Charlize was awesome. Scene chewer. And strangely, like Game of Thrones, there's a hints of incest so it's weird, especially for a film targeted towards kids. That being said, the movie is very uneven, but entertaining. But it misses some marks on the story.

8/10 Yeah, this movie's still really entertaining stuff. Really hope we never get a sequel to this. |

I wish AEon Flux kept the weirdness of the cartoon.

^^ Yes, something was missing in the film. It seems only as another futuristic movie, nothing special.

Men In Black
8/10 I can't believe this came out FIFTEEN years ago! Man it doesn't seem like its been that long. Some of the effects haven't held up as well but the movie is still a lot of fun and I love the style of it. Smith does what he does best and Jones is the perfect man for him to play off of. It was a smart pairing. Vincent D'Onofrio really was fantastic as The Bug. The gradual progression of the make up was pretty gross but still reigned in enough that it doesn't scare kids. A shame they didn't bring Linda Fiorentino back for the next film because I liked her in this. The film has some great production design work. It has a retro minimalist style with some wacky sci fi flare. Men In Black II ![]() 6.5/10 The story just isn't as strong as it needed to be IMO. I liked how the roles were sort of reversed between K and J. K was now the unbelieving civilian. Rosario Dawson was very good and very gorgeous. Most of the cast was good but they just didn't have as much to work with. Men In Black III 7.5/10 Definitely a return to form for the series. I had a lot of doubts about this movie because of all the problems surrounding it but the filmmakers pulled it together. I love the kind of cartoon 1960's style for the part of the film set during that decade. Its right but a little exaggerated to fit into the unusual world of these films. Smith seems to be aging pretty well but TLJ is looking more and more like the Grand Nagus with each passing year. But he's always looked pretty haggard so I guess it suits the character. Josh Brolin though...man he does a better Tommy Lee Jones than Tommy Lee Jones sometimes. He makes younger K very likable. I also liked the villain in this film. I thought he made an interesting old foe for K They did a good job swerving me on the end of the film. I kept thinking does J die for K? Does young K replace old K in the future? The big revelation at the end felt a little forced but it was still a nice touching scene. It does help a little bit in showing what K saw in J when he recruited him. Oh and..SLEDGE HAMMER! ;D An awesome addition to the film. |

Idiocracy rings so true in real life. I think the movie kinda falls apart near the end, but when it's funny, it hits the right marks due to the Judge's great sense of comedic writing and timing.

The Man Who Would Be King. Connery and Caine in top form, great script and gorgeous locations. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

Yeah. The guys on Pajiba described it as the movie that started as a comedy but is slowly becoming a documentary. It's so true.

Blood & Bone
90 minutes of Michael Jai White ass whippery. Makes me wish he'd had a bigger role in TDK.

Bridesmaids as well. Idea was interesting..comedy wasn't consistent and some moments I think were meant to be hilarious and didn't work. 6/10

Kill Zone (aka SPL)--8/10
Donnie Yen is awesome. This is the first movie I've seen where he's the star, and he's as good as any of his martial arts contemporaries. Sammo Hung's still got it, too. The drama is mostly par-for-the-course for this kind of movie, except it has a really good ending. Take Shelter--8.5/10 I'm not entirely sure what to make of the ending, but I know I liked the movie a lot. Even though the buildup is slow, I maintained a high level of interest, and Michael Shannon's performance is brilliant. |
