Default How long before the fan community turns on the Nolan films?

Now, I'm not naming names, but I'm already seeing a disgruntled blowback on TDKR that is starting to extend to the whole trilogy. Despite being almost universally beloved on this boards in 2005 and 2008, fans are starting to taste change in the air and the possibility for something new....

Now, we've seen it happen time and again. When the new comes along, fans not only turn on the old, a majority at some point comes to the consensus they NEVER liked the old toys and always hated them. We saw this with Burton when Nolan came along. We saw this with Raimi when Webb came along. We saw this with Singer when Vaughn came along. And if you just scroll down to the Superman boards you can see it right now starting to trinkle out with Donner now that Snyder/Nolan have come along.

So, I'll be optimistic and say that it won't be a majority until the week of a reboot and/or JL film, but there will be a plurality of discontent by the trailer. And yet the cynic in me says soon as there is an announcement or poster the bandwagon will begin.

So let the voting begin.

I see it happening once a reboot is announced. The same thing happened once The Amazing Spider-Man was announced.

It'll be a sad day.

It's been slowly building since the success of The Dark Knight. That's fine. These will always be my live-action Bat-flicks.

Watch WB hire somebody like Louis Leterrier for the reboot. Before you protest - it's not beyond the realm of possibility.

I can't wait for the 'Nolan never understood the Batman mythology. He's a hack! ______ is going to bring us the Batman movie we've been waiting for decades!' and 'Screw Bale. He was the worse Batman ever. ______ IS Batman!' comments.

I stand by saying he doesn't understand some of Batman's characters, and that Bale's bat-voice is the worst bat-voice ever.

Well, that varies. Some say Burton's films were more loyal to the source material and that his characters were more brilliantly written compared to Nolan's films. And yet, when you examine The Dark Knight Trilogy as a whole, ironically, Nolan's franchise is more loyal to the source material than Burton's, in my opinion.

I think it's just safe to say that fanboys are a peculiar bunch and will never be fully satisfied.

Considering not everyone loves the Nolan films, it's not going to be a turn against his films, just people drinking the Nolan koolaid will realize not everyone liked his Batman.

All i know is the entire Internet was "drinking the koolaide" in 2005 after eight years of absence following the heartbreaking "film" that was Batman & Robin. Then in 2008, TDK became the highest grossing film of the decade (before Avatar) and second highest grossing of all time. Again, people were pretty into it and not just Nolanites and Nolan fanboys.

But soon, it's going to be "Nolan didn't have a Lazirus Pit/venom for Bane/permaskin/whatever...." and that is all fans on the Internet will say about his movies. How this, that, and this were wrong and ruined the character.

A storm is indeed coming.

I don't remember people turning on Bryan Singer's first X-Men or X-Men 2 when Matthew Vaughn came around. X-Men 3 and XMO: Wolverine, on the other hand. Even though that latter two have always had a majority against them.

Actually, Nolan will be fine. By the time the reboot rolls around hopefully he'll have another masterpiece or two out and knows that the GA and critics will hold his still as the benchmark. And I still have the naive hope that TDKR gets a token BP nomination, if for nothing more than a make-up for missing TDK, and thereby can say he has the only superhero movie nominated for BP. I think TDK will always b an undisputed classic and therefore will keep BB and TDKR held up as part of a classic trilogy for those who love great movies, as opposed to just how they are related to comic books.

But fans who love this movie on this site? We better batten down the hatches.

I don't see any reason to dislike them. If people dislike the trilogy, they're quite frankly crazy.

It's hands down the best superhero saga made, and for me the best film trilogy made.

The Godfather would take that gong, but it had The Godfather III whilst Star Wars had Ewoks....

Are you seriously saying people who don't like the trilogy are crazy? Really??????
I, for one, don't like the trilogy at all.

Anytime something is wildly popular, contrarians start making waves, regardless of quality. I've already predicted the same thing happening to Avengers by the time the sequel comes out, and got reprimanded for it over there. But it's fine, I've saved posts lol, I'll have my fun eventually...

Oh, definitely. If Raimi's Spiderman, Donner's Superman, Burton's Batman and Singer's X-Men franchises weren't safe from the ugly turn, then no franchise is safe. Whedon's The Avengers is absolutely gonna receive backlash a decade from now. The sequel is going to garner a more polarizing reaction from fans.

Eh?

The Burton films got backlash, and the Raimi films to some extent, but when did the other two receive that type of backlash? Almost everyone calls them the best films of their respective franchises.

well to me, realistically, its gonna be the week of release when people actually see it. but seeing the polls i can understand that the announcements are when people will be unhappy as am i. especially when i heard they were making a new star wars trilogy....

point being, i think i'd change my vote towards the announcing of a reboot or JL. you cant beat the Chris Nolan Batman. nuff said.

Eh, people said the same thing about the Joker. "You can never beat Jack" and such. And then Heath came along.

Now, I do think this trilogy has left big shoes to fill, because it made three very quality films, but you never know. And as to the Star Wars thing...well, with Lucas only being involved in an advisory capacity, who knows? It might actually be good. It's not like it can get much worse then Eps 1 or 2.

It happens all the time. To heightened extents on SHH. Iron Man 2 was supposedly clearly better than Iron Man on the Marvel boards the 2nd it came out.

Even though to anyone with a brain it was clearly inferior to the original.

I'm already seeing it with TDK Rises. And trust me, I'm a fan of the movie ... but its still way too sloppy and clunky in parts and inferior to TDK for me to lump something so easily over it just because its new.
Wow. Really? Thanks, I'm about to get sentimental and blush

I agree with your post though. I think there's a fine line between general criticism and outright contrarian hate. I believe TDKR is probably the best "#3" of any comic trilogy. I also think it has it's issues, and had they been ironed out, it could've possibly been a masterpiece.

That being said, there's a segment of people who staunchly defend the indefensible, which in turn makes the critique shouted even louder, and it just goes back and forth. Personally, I don't see how anyone could sensibly call any of Nolan's films terrible, Batman or otherwise, but to each his own. On the same token, TDKR had some problems, in my estimation, more than the other two movies did, or at least, in bigger quantities.

I assume if we ever do get a straight comic Batman adaptation, a large number of fans will clamor to it just for the aesthetic, no matter how good or bad the film is. I, for one, would like to see it myself. Honestly, I think it's the only way to go to be fresh. They've done the black rubber suit to death. Let's finally see how the comic Batman in all his glory translates to the big screen. Then we can really have some discussions around here...
