I was thinking. It feels like Howard the Duck was abandoned completely. I was wondering if it'd be a good idea to have a reboot of Howard the Duck.
They should make it a comedy like last time, but try to make the jokes a lot funnier and go in depth with Howard's origin and think of what would be a good villain for a movie? Would you want to see a Howard the Duck reboot? Discuss.

This. You need to make people care about the character instead of just rebooting him on film, when 99% of people only know him from the disastrous 1980s movie.
Going straight into a movie would waste the character's long term potential, and Marvel's money.

I like the idea of him being an animated series on adult swim, thats a great idea. Definite NO for a live action movie though.

Get Matt Groening involved for an animated series.. I think Seth McFarlane would be too prone to constantly delve into grossout jokes.. I don't know.. Maybe Seth Rogen can do the voice..
the only place I'd really get a kick out of live action is if some random scene took place in Cleveland, where Howard cameos somehow.. |

I loved Howard the Duck. It was one of my favorite movies grwoing up as a kid in the 80's. When I got older, I managed to purchase the Marvel graphic novel for all of the HTD comic from the 70's. I would love to see a reboot, or like someone else said a cartoon on Adult Swim. I read on wikipedia that the original movie was supposed to be animated anyway, so Howard and his existential material would be perfect as an Adult swim toon.

I always loved that character and I have to admit I'm in the minority of tgose who enjoyed the movie.
I'd love to see a reboot or at least a cameo in the GotG movie. Howard is a great character and if the MCU wants to include anthropomorphic animals like Rocket Racoon, Howard can't be far behind. He shouldn't.

He should definitely have a presence somewhere in the Marvel Universe - could even see him appearing randomly in The Shield TV-series. I like the idea of him being handled as an Adult Swim cartoon the best, though - sorta like what they tried to do with Plastic Man, or some of the quirkier episodes of The Brave and The Bold.

Would love more Howard The Duck. If only Marvel had a bunny character then they could make their own Looney Tunes type of show with Spider-Ham & Howard The Duck.

There is no reason to make a Howard the Duck film.
1. It is doomed to fail. 2. It's adult humor with a duck.

Hello hello, I'll look forward to it if it was done as they wanted the original to be before they mess it up
Animation, taking the right elements of satire and stuff that made Howard the Duck what his creators made him to be

An Adult Swim animated show is a great idea. The original film is so notorious, the stigma would hang over a film remake no matter how good it is. Better to refresh the brand with something lower risk.

It would be a good idea for a cartoon show but not for a live-action movie.

How much was the 80s flick based on the comics? Besides a Civil War tie in I never really read much with the character.

Quote:
"The film was originally intended to be an animated film based on the character created by Steve Gerber and quoting scripts by Bill Mantlo. In particular, the "Duckworld" story of Howard the Duck magazine #6 was going to serve as a basis for the script. Huyck and producer Gloria Katz strayed significantly in their adaptation. A contractual obligation required Lucas to provide a distributor with a live action film, so he decided to make the film using live actors and to use special effects for Howard. The script significantly altered the personality of the title character, chose to play the story straight instead of as a satire, removed the surrealist elements, and added supernatural elements that could highlight special effects work done by Lucas' Industrial Light & Magic. The adapted version of the main character is an alien named Howard who lives on a planet populated by anthropomorphic ducks that evolved from birds instead of primates. His world is almost identical to Earth but is filled with bird-related visual puns. Howard is transported to Earth by an accident involving an experimental laser. He arrives on Earth near a punk rock club, where he meets Beverly (the only other character from the original comics). As Howard attempts to find a way to return to his planet, he helps Beverly in her singing career, develops a romance with her, then saves humanity from a scientist who is possessed by an alien." I didn't get a chance to read any of Howards comics until I bought the Marvel Essentials Howard the Duck trade paperback 2 years ago. The only difference I've seen between the movies and the comics is the movie is more sci/fi, while the comics are basically satire, with a little weird light slapstick an exists within the regular marvel universe ( Spider-man and Man-thing showed up in a coupe of issues), and Howard's origin is different ( According tohis creator Steve Gerber, Howard didn't come from a planet of alien anthromorphic ducks, but a dimension that featured a variety of funny cartoon animals.)
