Jimmy/Jenny - where do you stand?

With the leaked info that Jimmy Olsen may be changed to a character called Jenny Olsen .... how do you all feel about that?

Myself, my enthusiasm has diminished a little. I like the character of Jimmy and wanted to see that character fixed as were the others.

In my mind, the best way to portray jimmy is a mix of the animated series and Justin Whalin from 'Lois & Clark'. I thought Snyder might have taken this opportunity to finally give us that kind of Jimmy.

A little dissapointed but I'm only speaking for myself.

So - how about the rest of you?

If it is indeed the alternative "Jimmy" as opposed to some sort of relative, then yeah, I'm slightly disappointed. She's a girl, ok, but that she "has" to be of ethnic background is just irritating, but I can only hope they're not trying to be over-politically correct.

I would've liked to have seen the Earth One Jimmy on screen, thought he fit nicely into the whole story and he had a good dynamic with that Lois. If this Jenny actually turns out to be a great addition and works well then fair enough it paid off, but I'll be annoyed if they did change the character and it went on to do nothing interesting.

1) I think it's a ******** rumor that shouldn't be taken seriously.

2) Assuming there is a character named "Jenny Olsen" is the film, I believe it's far likelier that she's a relative of Jimmy's.

3) If they have indeed changed "Jimmy" to "Jenny," then it's a stupid, unnecessary change.

Personally I'm not that interested in this character to be interested in its sex, I just want him/her to fit right in the movie and be performed well.

So, if this is indeed true, I wouldn't be upset. Actually, I won't be surprised if "Jenny Olsen" turned out to be the best "Jimmy Olsen" for many.

I stand in the "I would hate it" camp, that's where I stand.

Jimmy serves a purpose, or at least he can serve one. Jimmy's his pal, his confidant, his male bud. Making him a girl invites speculation for a possible love triangle or something of the sort, and when you've got Lana in the picture, it seems pretty useless, and a waste of a perfectly good character.

Plus, there's plenty of cool stuff you can do with a photographer that follows Superman around and gets into dangerous situations. Personally, I have this conception of an "edgier" Jimmy who's a go-getter freelance photojournalist travelling the world and awkwardly documenting armed conflicts and stuff like that, and I refuse to give it up unless they present something better. The Jenny from the trailer seemed like a secretary or something, from the way she was dressed. Again, a waste of a character. It would be a self-indulgent alteration done just for the hell of it, from the "Look, I'm such a great writer that I can change anything I want and you'll still love it" kind. I'm praying she's Jimmy's sister or cousin.

Sorry but people I've heard people saying Jimmy and Clark can't be friends if Jimmy's a girl, common it's the modern age guys and girls can be just good friends. Infact I have many female friends who are really good friends so I don't see the problem.

I honestly don't mind Jimmy being a female as long as its a female version of the same character and not just a girl in a vacant spot for the sake of being different. I like the cool jimmy version myself that will do anything to get the perfect photograph.

It's probably a change to keep things in a more serious tone.

Jimmy is a comic relief character, a silly little boy more or less. Change into female will probably negate that.
Jenny will probably be Perry's assistant or something. Jimmy was just an ass kisser lol

I know Jimmy's been that for the longest time, but he doesn't always have to be that, he can be more. Gordon was absolutely useless in the Burton/Schumacher batfilms, but you take the Nolan trilogy and you can't imagine it without him. That's what I'd like with Jimmy. But even if they don't make him important, they shouldn't just assume they can throw him in the bin because nobody likes him. If Jenny's a great character, great, keep her, but they can have both.

This is incredibly telling.

The idea that Jenny Olsen "will probably be Perry White's assistant or something" is inherently sexist and kind of makes me want this to be an actual Jenny Olsen even more.

These comics go back a ways, gang. Back to a time where what Rodrigo said would've been the only logical conclusion for a female supporting character.

Jenny Olsen could and should be every bit the "anything for a shot" go-getter confidant photog we would hope the character was if it were Called Jimmy and was a man.

What WOULD bother me is if they pull the "Jimmy's sibling/cousin/whatever" schtick with her, though. "Smallville" might have gotten away with that, but that doesn't mean it should be repeated.

The woman we’re calling “Jenny” is, apparently, a Chicago-based theater actor. No doubt, she’s very talented - but she’s not a “name.” For Jimmy (or even Jenny) Olsen, I suspect they would have cast someone better known. Ergo, she’s not Jenny.
