Default An alternative "Logan" film

The prologue to "The Wolverine" brought to mind what I would have liked to see a "Logan" film.

I'd like to see it set in the Canadian wilderness where he is living the mountain-man lifestyle, but he gets drawn into some situation to help out a woman or a family, maybe Heather Hudson..

Maybe they'd be on the run from a posse, and have to traverse territory with bad weather, wild animals, etc.

It would have maybe some "Deliverance" atmosphere to it.

In this film maybe he'd be the only mutant, or maybe just one mutant villain.

Maybe Department H would be involved.

There's a book called "Violent Tendencies" that has a similar plot. It takes place two months after Logan escapes Weapon X, when he's still living wild in the woods (it opens with him hunting down a wolf that was hunting a deer and eating it). He ends up finding this town, which he stays away from, but one guy sees him one night and goes off looking for him.

At the same time, the government wants to recapture him, and they send Weapons I-IX after him, which are all basically a bunch of failed experiments. (That part gets a little silly)

But the town gets tangled up in it, there's a female scientist who gets used as bait and hooks up with Logan, there's a lynch mob from the town that goes after Logan because they think he killed someone in their town (he didn't), but they end up running right into the whole ops group that was trying recapture him. And there's a big fight at the end that includes Logan going berserk and then running off at the end.

Sounds like that's what "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" should have been more like.

Somewhat, at least as far as Logan's time in the first months after escaping Weapon X. The book was written by the same guy who wrote the novelization of Weapon X, so it's basically a sequel to that book. One of the early chapters, with Logan recovering from the berserker rage that had him eating the wolf in the prologue, is pretty terrific.

And there's another scene later where a new crew is trying to re-open the Weapon X facility, and during the cleanup someone finds a human head in one of the air ducts.

A lot of it gets kind of silly though. One of the failed experiments he fights is a guy that belches fire. And they added a bunch of new characters who take up so much time that Logan almost becomes a side character.

But it's a decent enough book, definitely worth a read.
