I might as well admit my own interest on this issue( the spiritual beliefs of comic book characters- and Marvel ones in particular- are a matter of some curiousity to me.(see my post in the FF section "Remembrance of Things Past" in which the FF's orange skinned smiler Ben Grimm was "outed" as Jewish)
it seems strange that this aspect of Tony Stark's life has never been adequately explored. Personally I much suspect that he's a Roman Catholic(if only because of his mother's name Maria- hinting at Italian or Spanish background) Given his background as a recovering alcoholic- does he ever say the Serenity Prayer of AA- "God grive me the grace to change the things I can, the things i can't-and the wisdom to know the difference!"? All I know relating to that subject is that in another thread on these forums it was stated that he is indeed of Italian descent.

Remember in one Avenger comics where Thor went inside a catholic monastery and he was stun to see that they didn't have any statute representing him as the god of thunder!

Stark is a German surname. In many recent issues of Iron Man and other crossovers he's been in, (within the past 10 years,) he has said he believes in science above all and doesn't bother much with religion.

One of the curious aspects of Tony Stark is that he seems to acknowledge the divine for what it is rather than pay attention via devotion. |

Ultimate Tony is a bit different as he has no trouble accepting that Thor is a god or the divine is real.

I think Stark probably comes from a Catholic background but it wouldn't surprise me if he's currently an athiest.

early in Civil War #1 or #2 (I think) he said something along the lines of "God help me if I'm wrong"
and in Iron Man #14, at the very end he says a prayer, so I assume he believes in God. Last edited by IronMan_2005; 12-22-2006 at 07:00 AM. |
