Depends, by the time of "The Cell Saga" or "Majin-Boo", yeah, he would stomp Supes a new one, easily. He is way faster, stronger and Supes ain't even in the same universe as far as Martial Arts goes. Plus Goku has a hard on for fighting.

I used to watch it as the Japanese version was being released. (I got tapes). The American version is much shorter and heavily edited. Was into way before 99% of American fans even heard of it. I got a Goku tattoo in 91'

Going into GT is just a crap idea.

I'm not sure whether to argue that SUpe's is better or just let people stew in their own little "Worst Jap Anime show" world. It is a very good debate. I was in one on another site. Superman eventually won out because anything that was brought up for Goku was immeadiately brought down byt Supe's abilities. Anyway I say Supe's is better, mostly because we have a smilie of him and not DBZ.

Look, I've said this once, I've said this twice, I'm not going to say it a second time. Superman gets his power from the sun. Goku's moveset consists of laser beams that use the sun for power. So if Goku where to keep hitting Superman with his laser beams, Superman would absorb the power and become more and more powerful. Eventually he'd have to release it. Ergo eye lasers = BBQ Goku.

A lot of you DBZ fans believe that Son Goku is so dominant because of the various power levels, forms and/or transformations that he can assume. In actuality, since the crisis on infinite earths, Superman too has taken on other forms (levels) which I will cite here. Obviously, Superman (or Kal-El) is a Kryptonian so I will indicate his levels using the abbreviation SK (for Super Kryptonian). Take note that although these manifestations (if you want to call it that) did occur in the comics, the terminology that I am using to describe them are not necessarily official.


Normal

This would be Superman in his normal form (un-powered by the sun). At this level he is just a normal Kryptonian, which is presumably far stronger than a normal human being.


Byrne's Weak Superman (SK-I)

This was Superman during the John Byrne era (circa 1986-1988). It's kind of sad to see him being shown up by the likes of Big Barda, but this Superman was powerful enough to withstand a 40 megaton nuclear blast (at ground zero) without any noticeable injuries (except for passing out after he hit the ground and tried to fly away).


Aberration Superman
(from Superman v2 #89)

Superman reached this state after an uncontrolled absorption of solar radiation shortly after his death and recovery. Just as his absorption was uncontroled so was his powers (out of control).


Superman Red/Blue

This was believed to be a natural evolution of Superman's powers. In this form, Superman could phase through solid objects, see frequencies of energy, and draw power from electrical sources. In order to maintain physical cohesion in this form, he needs to wear a containment suit (and hence the change in costume). Since we will more that likely not see superman in these forms again I will not count them as legitimate forms.


Sun-dipped Superman (SK-II)
(from All Star Superman #1)

Superman can reach this level just by skimming the surface of the sun. In this state he has 3X the normal power of a (presumably) weak Superman - strong enough to lift more than 200 quintillion tons with one arm. Just for the record the earth weighs about 6 sextillion tons.


Sun-soaked Superman (SK-III)
(from Action Comics #782)

This is Superman after piercing through the heart of the sun, which makes him seem to be wreathed in flames, and gives him enough strength and power to move an entire dwarf planet.


Power Cosmic Superman

Superman reached this state after being granted the Power Cosmic by Galactus in the 1999 Superman/FF crossover. In this state Reed Richards claimed that Superman was the second most powerful being in the universe. Of course this is more or less an elsworld tale so it should not be considered an official state.


Superman Prime (SK-IV)
(from DC One Million #4)

This is Superman after dwelling in the heart of the sun for more than 800,000 years. The extent of his powers is unknown although he is considered to be near god at this point.

So Superman has power levels too now there. What do you guys think about that?

....Are you kidding me? How about the Spectre, the Endless? Most of the Gods in the DC universe? Not only that, but the Martians have simmilar powers to Superman.

Also Superboy Prime killed E2 Superman, who during COIE displayed silver age Superman power levels. Our Superman, (unless he's been greatly powered up very recently) no longer has that kind of power. So if SBP could kill a E2 Supes who's stronger then our Supes, then I'd also say that Superboy Prime is more powerful then Superman.

Superman is no where near the most powerfull being in the Universe.

Agreed, and take into account most the people that bash DBZ and other such Anime have only seen the American versions, DBZ was actually watered down for the western audience, the Japanese versions are ALOT better.

Despite all the to and fro on this pointless thread, the only move that Goku is does that is solar powered is the Solar Flare.

Where did you get that info from? Its wrong. Most DBZ attacks are ki based, similar to Iron Fist

- Goku can take bullets (he could even as a kid, when Bluma shot him in the HEAD and he didn't even had a scar).
- Goku is a hell fast, maybe not faster than Superman, but he has teleportation for those circumstances.
- Goku can produce energy balls and rays strong enough to destroy planets (his maxed kame hame ha would do it, not even talking about genki dama -spirit bomb- or kaioken, which he even takes at a x1000 rate, and which he can combine with Super Saiyajin forms).
- About, Super Saiyajin forms, he defeated Broli (who can destroy planets just merely using a single-handed energy bolt) in a SSJ-1 form, not even talking about what he would do to Superman or anyone else in a SSJ-4 form.
- Goku can survive in space without breathing (he could since the Freezer saga)
- Superman may hear a mile away, but Superman can feel a ki and track it galaxies away, like he did with Broli, not even missing the planet, he actually reached the right spot where he was.
- Finally, Goku is merged with the Dragon Balls, and he is a god. So screw Superman or anything else.

BTW: I think that if he can concentrate the universe energy in a Genki Dama, if you think like all the comic-writters, all the Kryptonyte energy of the universe would also be merged there.

this is an entertaining thread, it reminds me of a debate i had when i was 15 with a group of my friends. lol. i love this thread!

anyways, Goku could move as fast as the speed of light at the end of original dragonball and since Z he has only gotten faster.

supes would win based on one simple fact: he is invincible.
goku is near invincible and, if not powered up, can be bruised.

other than that fact, i'd give it to Goku...he has supes beat in almost every other category.

and to properly setup a match such as this, youd have to weigh in on basic traits and then special ones.

Basic:
Strength
Speed
Stamina
Vitality

Special:
Their unique Powers

ps- if goku wanted to cheeze superman, he could just teleport him to a planet with a red sun and end the fight in a second.

yeah, at the end of dragonball when he is getting ready to fight Tien it is mentioned that he can go as fast as the speed of light. he is able to go that fast after his training with Kami.

in DBZ, according to Akira Toriama the DBZ creator, when they "phase out" in a fight they are going the speed of light.

My prediction is that in the DBZ universe the measurements for strength might be a little different than that of DC universe. So really freaking strong in the DBZ universe means he might get dominated when up against Superman.

Superman is just the man, plain and simple. He might have trouble against Thor and Capt. Marvel because they are magic, but Goku he's sure to beat.
