He dropped out so he could take over running the farm.
I hope at some point in the future, they show that he has been attending night school and is close to graduating. |

Agreed with the two posts above. Clark needs to be in college. Clark Kent has always been an intellgent person. They're turning him into a college drop out.

Another good point. Its safe to assume that Tom Welling's Clark Kent is the least Journalistic one of them all.

This has been bugging me for a while I mean what happend to college everyone just decided to stop going it's not just Clark it seems no one is going to graduate from college Clark, Lana, Chloe none of them have been going and it just feels like a big plot hole I mean what happend are they done, are they going to go back, are they going offscreen, will it ever be mentioned? I hope it gets resolved.

The characters on Smallville don't care about a good education. Dean Cain would not approve of this!

Well you don't need a college education to become a reportor. They can't teack you the skills needed to be one, I'm sure college can help but it isn't a necessity you can travel the world and work for small papers on the way, or become a intern like Chloe who doesn't really need an education considering her foot is already in the door. Lana is doing the smart thing, marrying a rich businessman, so she can have nice things. It wasn't like College was ever that big a deal on the show anyway, only Clark was ever shown actually going and even then it was only to introduce Fine. Even Highschool wasn't that big a deal ever and they only ever really dealt with things that needed to be dealt with, like the Prom and granduation.

Being a college drop out doesn't make you dumb..besides in a field where your talent is tangible (i.e portfolio, writing samples) maybe a college degree isn't absolutely required. I didn't finish college and I'm doing fine career-wise as a designer. But thats not really the point, Clark sitting in a classroom, unless Fine is the teacher is kind of boring

Dude, I'm a journalist and trust me college is important. Do you need college to be a successful journalist? No, not really, but it helps to build the connections. In college you'll have professors who are or were professionals and thats awesome connections. If Chloe were in college maybe her professor could hook her up with a better job at the Daily Planet than the one she has now. Secondly, in college you'll get skills you can't get in the real world for a LONG time! For example, in college you can be the editor-in-chief of your school newspaper but in the real world it'll take you 20-30 yrs to get a position like that. You have to start at the bottom and build your way up.
The only loop hole in journalism now is internet. You can build a badass news site and by the time you're 25 you'll be the person in charge. Yeah, but Superman doesn't stand for college drop out and dead-beat dad. You have to be careful with the way you portray Superman. |

This guy over at DeKnight's Blog (I'm not too sure who he is, I have my suspicions, but he is a writer of some sorts) gave this reason as to why you dont see the kids in College and it has very little to do with their intelligence.

Whilst he is specifically referring to Lois in this case, the same logic can be applied to all of the characters. |

Or maybe they aren't too creative. There's a lot you can do in college. For example, having Brainiac as a college professor was brilliant. They should have kept that up. They could have had the escaped Phantom Zone villains crash a classroom. Can you imagine that? Clark is in class taking notes and suddenly a Phantom Zone escapee (if that is even a word) crashes into class shouting, "WE WANT KAL-EL!" And, Clark doesn't know what to do without exposing himself?

I think you just have to close your mind to the real world, and believe that these characters will get their top notch jobs without College Diplomas. |
