Which do you think is the better game?
Man I loved both and thought they were both their best Mario games for the systems they were released on. I have a hard time choosing between them, but I think I have to give the edge to SMW |

I voted SMB3.
Although both games are great, I enjoyed the overall level and game design of SMB3, but the dungeons and boss fights were better in SMW. |

SMB3...it may be nostolgia but it is just more fun and the levels and fights are just so more original and cool. Sure SMB1 did it first (I like it better than World too) but 3 introduced the flying, the warping and much of the diversity. I felt most of World's changes save for Yoshi were inferior.
But I love both. |

I had it for GBA and the thing I hated about it was that you couldn't save whenever you wanted to. There was some way to save but if you did it twice your game was erased.

Why would you need to save Mario 3? That game was just 30-45 minutes. Shorter if you used both flutes from the first world.

30-45 minutes? You do that but then you really wouldnt be playing the game as you'd be missing out on everything

and you definitely needed to build up the special items (which you can't if you warp).

SM3 was the game to play back in school, man. We'd be talking about it the next day in class, how far we got, what items we used, and how long we're going to stay up to finish. Those were the days. The game is still hard as **** to this day in some worlds. I'm getting into New Super Mario on DS now...get on the train to go home, I be focused, man.

Both are wonderful, but 3 just has that special magical feeling of greatness. The final castle and fight with Bowser are always frightening.

Ahhh good ol SMB3. I never had a SNES so I don't know about Super Mario World. But I loved SMB3. It was such a relief to have a good game after the crappy SMB2 came out. I just really did not like SMB2 at all!
But gosh, the SMB3 with the tanooki (sp?) suit and flying and all. There will ALWAYS be a special place in my heart for SMB3. Makes me want to go out and buy that game, or wish it was possible to play on my wii system.

I'd go with SMW. Only because I owned it before SM3 (which i caught up on when All-Stars came out on the SNES). Still, I'm very much looking forward to SM3 when it comes to the Wii's Virtual Console!

I absolutely love both but I'm giving the slight upper hand to "Super Mario Bros. 3," mostly due to difficulty level. I recently played through "Super Mario Bros. 3" on my DS (my brother bought me the GBA version for Christmas along with "Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga"), and I thought a handful of levels were somewhat challenging (if you're a coin-catching, brick-smashing perfectionist like myself who has to do everything in each level). There is one level in world 3 in particular where you're squaring off against the giant, red fish. Without firepower that can be a little tricky - even today.
EDIT: Yikes - sorry for upping an older thread. I was reading pages back and got into this one. Completely forgot it wasn't current. |

The bunting baby needs to save his game? SM3 was the last perfect Mario game. SMW was great but rushed, and all the others have Mario moonlighting as Mickey Mouse, and while the original games were perfect family games anyone could get into, the ones made in my lifetime are so kiddy that they seem to be purposefully trying to repulse me.
