"Free Fall" was the parachute ep you're thinking of. He fell out of the plane and another jumper had to follow behind him and hand off a reserve chute to clip to his harness as he had no parachute. About 100' from the ground, a sniper shot off one side of the chute harness. He began to change as he fell. He crashed through the roof of a storage shed and came out as the Hulk.

In "Death of..." he fell a considerably higher distance, but still... you're right. Rather lame.
