I remember an interview with Denbey where he said he really wanted to do Iron Man. I wonder what happened?

An early review of the movie, from AICN, and it mentions the score, or lack-there-of:
By Hung Lo: "The lack of any real sort of musical score really seemed to take away from what is a very good, but could have been great superhero film." Also, this small, albeit very informal and lackadaisical review comment by "pregnant man" on the same page, "the music rocks, there's time you want to headbang." Uh, okay. ![]() That doesn't sound too good. Link: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/36386 |

A real musical score is in regards to orchestral and epic.
The music of Iron Man is going to be different sounding. Head banging sounding. This does not mean filled with rock music. Yeah, there are classic rock songs and there very well should be. It fits the tone of the film. The score was done with an emphasis on using an electric guitar which is going to give a more rocking tone than a sweeping tone a la Spider-Man. Personally, I could never see this movie working with a classical orchestra. |

If they wanted a fantastically epic soundtrack, then yes. This man is my hero. He did wonders with X-Men: The Last Stand's score. By far one of the best Superhero scores ever, in my opinion.
A score really does effect a movie. So, hearing that Iron Man may be lacking in that area is not a good thing for me.

The only scores for Marvel movies that are even close to memorable for me are X-2 and Hulk. All the rest is forgotten as soon as it's played and thet's not a good thing. So far nothing touches William's Superman or Elfman's Batman scores. Those are the only ones that have the right to be called epic/iconic.

Some(like Elfman's Batman & William's Superman), but others I have not. But in the context of the discussion it wouldn't matter. We're talking about how they improve or lessen the films they're in so soundtracks are pointless. The fact was that inside the movies those scores just had nothing memorable for me. But I can still remember the X-2 theme(though I wished the main part was longer) and the Hulk theme(hated the Velvet Revolver rock crap in the credits though).

We'll have to agree to disagree there then.

Me too, although I've would have kept the whole orchestal/rock score approach. It's not that it doesn't work, it's just that I would've like to have heard it from someone more experienced. Having said that, I'm still giving Djawadi the benefit of the doubt, cause I've only heard one track and the music from the clips (and I rather liked the music that was on the Mark II clip).

"Set Me Free" was one of the few things I actually liked about 2003's Hulk
.

Does anyone else think Fantastic Four had a cool score?

I loved John Ottman's wasted F4 scores too.

They should have used an alteration of the theme from the Invincible Iron Man animated film. It sounds heroic enough and used in the Marvel Kids short CGI films.
I'm beginning to see that they go a bit far in literally pushing metallic rock sound. |

What exactly do you mean by that?
I like the F4 music love here. Even if you didn't like the movies, you've gotta admit the score was pretty awesome.

I meant Ottman's great themes were wasted on two mediocre films.

That's what I thought. Personally I didn't think they were terrible, especially the extended version of F41. They definitely could be longer and better though.
