Hey, I just got back from seeing the movie again....And YES! I'm positive I saw the Captain America shield (or something else VERY much like it, couldn't tell if it was an actual shield) in Stark's workshop! You can see it in the background in the scene where Tony says to Pepper, "let's face it, this is not the worst you've caught me doing." .... It's a very quick shot and not obvious at all so it's vey easy to miss, but, look to the left.

They must really want to make an Avengers movie!

I mentioned this nod in my small review in the review thread.

For fans of the comics who know Stane's background, his competitive nature and his Love of Chess.

When Stane is watching Rhodes on TV cover up the jet crash(when Iron Man was getting chased by them) you can see in front of Stane a big chess game setup on his coffee table.

During the fight on the freeway, there is a Roxxon office building in the background. That may get the "most obscure, but perfect" reference award...

I loved all the talk of S.H.I.E.L.D. and of course Nick Fury.

But as somone else said in the previous page, Iron Mongers armor was really faithful to the comics. And still maintained to look great on film.

Just before Tony says "tell ya what,put a little hot rod red in there", he has the face plate covering his face. Now people can say it's the Mark II faceplate,but it is DEFINITELY the same colours as War Machine.
The shot is on the official website also, the mask is black and grey, not silver like the Mark II, believe me.

I saw it as a nod to War Machine anyway, people have different interpretations of things

I'm not a comic book expert when it comes to Ironman lore but didn't Rhodey use an older version of the Ironman armor for War Machine?

Could be. Rhodes was Iron Man before becoming War Machine.

Correct me if I'm wrong here...but:

I believe the story goes that Tony was seriously f'd up from something and told Rhodes to be Iron Man for awhile until he could fully recover. So Rhodes wore the Iron Man suit. Then when Tony got better and was able to resume being Iron Man he made Rhodes his own suit in which he became War Machine.

I think the chofer/bodyguard (Favreau's character) was never mentioned by name, except in an almost impossible to catch moment when Pepper and Tony are arguing about going to the hospital, and Pepper calls him "Happy". It's difficult to catch, 'cause it is in the middle of the discussion...

In Las Vegas, as Tony is about to leave on his plane, the band is playing the theme from the '60s Iron Man cartoon. I recognized it near the end of the sequence.
