If the story wasn't going to work here, they would have never licensed the series or the manga here, or put as much effort into the marketing of the merchandise as they have.

The feasibility of Naruto on the big screen I would say depends on how the Dragon Ball movie fares at the box office. In my opinion though Naruto wouldn't work on the big screen. Ninja kids, supernatural elements and all the campiness just wouldn't go well. It would be a trainwreck. Some company would finance it then end up picking up the loose change off the streets in order to try break even. It's a great anime but live action feature film material it is not.

Much as I dislike Naruto, I agree that it could be done. There's enough material that could be written with a more serious tone: Naruto being an outsider, Gaara's storyline, etc. I think that a good framework for a Naruto series is:

Movie 1.) Zabuza
Movie 2.) Gaara, Orochimaru (Sanin storyline)
Movie 3.) Akaatsuki (I know next to nothing bout Naruto, but it seems like a big enough storyline to warrant being the conclusion)

Now then, I pick Berserk.

When I say the American audience I mean people besides geeky little fanboys. Fanboys can't make the movie a success. There's a reason movies like Spiderman, Iron Man, Transformers, and Christopher Nolan's Batman are big hits. They have good stories, actors, and fx. DB, Naruto, & Inyuasha wouldn't be able to appeal to people that are not fanboys and little boys between 8-14.

Of course not. Because these series are not geared toward people over the age of 14. These shows are acutally meant for children. But that doesn't mean there won't be older teens and adults that wouldn't get anything out of them. If that were the case, anime wouldn't be so ****ing popular, now would it?!
If marketed correctly, and the right storylines, Naruto, DBZ, and Inuyasha could be very successful.

I seriously want a statistic of the ages of people who watch the supposed "childrens" anime programs. I'm pretty sure mostly adults watch them

where did you hear that? I heard about Cowboy Bebop, Astro Boy, Ghost In The Shell, and Death Note, but not Naruto. My cousin that is in film school is an intern at a big studio and he said that lately the studios have been selecting movies to adapt based on forums. A lot of anime fans don't want Naruto to be made into a live action movie.

Gundam Wing could easily work in 6 movies, plus a prequel to prove its popularity (an original story - fleshing out details and backstories).

Naruto, however, could never truly be done in anything beyond motion capture or CG. The actors age, not to mention the manga is a long way from being finished.

Personally, if they were to redo Naruto, I'd rather they go for a more Hellsing Ultimate approach, but that's just me (and they can leave dattebayo or believe it at home. I can't stand that line!).

And topnotch, do you think that a miniseries of Trinity Blood (each episode drawing on the original novels) would work? 12 episodes, plus perhaps one more to wrap everything up a bit more satisfactorily (I heard that the chap writing the manga would get to right the plot of the seventh and final Reborn on the Mars story, but I've no way to confirm that).

It doesn't confirm that Naruto will get the live action treatment. It's still up in there with the rest of the popular titles that Viz has licensed.

live-action Evangelion (I know it's planned, but who are we kidding, it'll take ages)

A good American Death Note adaptation. I found the Japanese live-actions okay, but kind of cheesy. I want a really capable director and a really skilled cast who can take the series and adapt it into a solid and amazing standalone movie (more aren't really needed...)

NGE is a hard ask for anyone to take on. It would be a nightmare for a scriptwriter to cram all that material into 2 hours if you ask me. The amount of characters will need to be cut. The density of the plot will be compromised. The characters and their development will be limited. Most importantly though, the themes will take back seat to the action.
