Default GI JOE: RESOLUTE Discussion Thread

This is for the new animation being made for GI JOE to be released soon.

Basically this will be the first ever "PG-13" Joe animation. It's being written by Warren Ellis, and it will be a series of 5 minute shorts that all together run about 60 minutes total, and released on DVD. Kind of like the first Clone Wars series.

Character designs were shown at comic con. I like the idea for this. And I hope it can maybe lead to an ongoing animation series.

This is uncharted territory for GI JOE. But the point is their last animation Sigma Six got terrible ratings. A good majority of their fans are now adults, and would probably like something that speaks more to them instead of down to them. Also since the movie will clearly be PG-13 movie, it prepares the audience for GI JOE with that tone.

I think figures will be made for this series as well.

Also, Hasbro said their strategy is that when the movie comes out all their toys will be focused on the movie, and 25th Anniversary will go away for a while like Transformers before being phased back in.

TheVileOne, I love the idea of a PG-13 G.I. Joe cartoon. The first episode of Sigma Six with the Joes fighting Cobra in the snow was great, until the 2nd ep starring the robot dog that Cobra couldn't stop, Ugh! Unwatchable that series was after that.

If G.I. Joe Resolute is a hit...maybe Hasbro could be encouraged enough to make at least a series of dtvs or a full blown G.I. Joe Resolute cartoon in prime time.

Or even Toonami or Adult Swim.

I think Hasbro finally gets that most of their GI JOE fans are grown up collectors, and they need to do stuff that will market the brand to them.

Their last kiddie oriented animation tanked. The toys did very well, but the 25th Anniversary figures did even bigger, huge business. And a big chunk of that audience is the old school gi joe fan.

I hope this is a step in the right direction for the franchise. But I hope its a lot more like the Hama comics rather than what we are probably getting in the movie.

Also more Scarlet/Snake.

I agree. I suspect that Hasbro has realized that audience, even the young kids, are much more discerning than they were twenty years ago. If they want action, they will want good and consistent quality animation as well as a decent plot. They won't simply watch any rubbish that appears, especially with the variety available as well as DVDs and video games readily available as alternatives.

However, in the event of Resolute being made into a full blown series, I suspect Hasbro will tone down the amount of graphic violence so as not to risk the wrath of parents who would then not allow their children to watch the series. This isn't necessarily a bad thing since as shows such as Gargoyles have shown, the amount of violence is not necessarily indicative of the maturity of a show. Plus, things such as scripting, animation and voice acting are far more important issues.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. This looks absolutely fantastic. I am a fan of the GI Joe comics, and always hated the cartoon because of the lasers, the lack of violence, and just how kiddy it was. This looks like what it should be.

But, I like how you guys mentioned the crappy Sigma 6. I hate it as well, despite some decent fights. But I would love to someday see two Joe cartoons. One for kids, who are probably a fair amount of income, but one for us older fans who have been giving Hasbro our money for the past 20 years. I feel GI Joe has struggled a bit in the past few years, and if Sigma 6 helped keep it alive at all, then I at least appreciate it for that. I would be perfectly happy if Hasbro continues to target all ages, all groups. I don't even care if they "sell out", as long as it means they are still putting out the 25th Anniversary, and other fan-targeted merchandise.

This trailer made my jaw freaking drop, and at the same time I was smiling like an idiot... It was filmed over a handy cam from a convention, obviously, but you can tell that they are not going to hold anything back with these webisodes! It's gritty, violent, and even over the handy cam footage the animation looks gorgeous.

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

I am looking forward to the live action movie, but this is GI Joe in it's purest, most raw form. I think anyone who hates the direction of the movie will find little to complain about with Resolute.

It'd be amazing if they could do a whole series like this, but it would have to be on prime time and on cable. I think it's probably too rough for Cartoon Network's regular primetime block, so I'm guessing it'd have to be on a different network, but who cares. If they gave me an entire series that was as EFFING BAD ASS as that trailer, I'd buy a freaking HBO subscription just to watch it.

All we know is sometime this year. When asked about it Hasbro keeps dodgeing the question. Most likely hit a few road bumps with the cartoon.
