Thumbs up Billion Dollar Batman: The Dark Knight $tory

After hearing the news that our favorite crime fighter has obliterated the box office, (after they said it couldn't be done, after they said Iron Man and Indy would make more, after they said Batman came and went (all over Avi's face)

After all that ridiculous nonsense that Bat-fans had to endure since Batman and Robin, The Dark Knight finally shows the world the true potential of not only Batman, but the comic book/ superhero genre as a whole.

Since the previous thread (500 million and counting) only tells half of the story, I took it upon myself to create a ceremonial BILLION DOLLAR BATMAN THREAD.

Hope the mods let it stay

The Dark Knight Breaks the $1 Billion Mark
Source:Variety
February 21, 2009

The Dark Knight has become the fourth film to take in more than $1 billion in worldwide box office.

Warner Bros. Pictures made the announcement Friday afternoon, saying that the combined domestic and international gross had totaled $1,001,082,160 to date -- about $533 million domestically and $567 million overseas.

The Dark Knight had been about $4 million short of the 10-figure mark when Warner Bros. re-released it into IMAX screens on Jan. 23, the day after its eight Oscar nominations were announced. Grosses from Ecuador also helped nudge the film over the mark, a spokeswoman said.

Only Titanic ($1.842 billion), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($1.119 billion) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($1.066 billion) have topped the billion-dollar worldwide mark previously.

"Knight" also is the second-highest domestic grosser of all time, trailing only Titanic.

A Best Picture nod did not materialize, but Warner's push was nonetheless enough to reach ten digits. Curiously, after weeks of silence on Dark Knight's latest foreign grosses, Warner suddenly chimed in with the announcement of the $1 billion milestone shortly before the Academy Awards air on Sunday.

The actual date that The Dark Knight crossed $1 billion is unknown at this time. Clearly, it's unlikely that it happened today or on Thursday, because its box office is at a trickle now and Warner Bros.' new figure is more than a million above a billion.

all you care about is money. Its about sending a message.

COMIC MOVIES ARE AWESOME REGARDLESS OF THE BOX OFFICE

TDK made 1 billion dollars.

YAY x 3

.....

... what else is there to discuss about it?

The point about how much money it made is kinda over since the moment it happened.
I mean, to me the main point of TDK is how good it is. That goes on and on.

There should at least be makeup smeared on his hands.

So what's the message?

Simple... kill the bull ****

1. American audiences can handle mature story lines.

2. Actors don't need their looks to sell a character (I'm talking to you Ryan Reynolds/ Deadpool)

3. Batman came and went all over Avi Arad's face (skeet skeet!)

4. You don't need happy endings

5. CGI is just a tool, and shouldn't be a selling point of a movie.

6. It's ok to kill Characters (IRON MAN did this too with the man in the cave)

7. You don't need to throw in a comic relief (Or have your protagonist have a stupid dance scene)

8. The more tension, desperation, suspense, and hopelessness a movie has the greater the reprisal is.

9. You don't need "young" actors to appeal to younger audiences (INDY IV)

10. Might as well make a smart action film

11. As long as the story calls for it, you can have as many characters/ villains as you want.

12. You don't need a hot actress to sell a movie

13. You don't need celebrities or top of the chart sound tracks to sell a movie.
