The only female roles from the draft I read that I can recall are:

Sif, Karnilla, Frigg (Thor's mother), and Eiric(a viking commoner Thor befriends)'s wife

Right now, Marvel Studios and its newly hired director Kenneth Branagh are wrestling with the difficulty of casting Thor. Sure, there's a big push to cast Josh Hartnett either in the winged helmet and/or as nemesis Loki, which is ironic since Warner Bros once upon a time threw an amazing amount of money at him to play Superman but he refused. But my sources say there's an equally powerful lobby to cast an unknown. I've heard that, besides Hartnett, the following actors are being tested: Charlie Hunnam (the British co-star of the F/X series Sons Of Anarchy); Tom Hiddleston (award-winning British actor and RADA graduate who played Winston Churchill's son in HBO's The Gathering Storm), Alexandar Skarsgard (Stellan's son who has appeared in the HBO Iraq War miniseries Generation Kill and vampire drama True Blood, and who's definitely visually right for the role), and Joel Kinnaman (some Danish dude). Meanwhile, I'm told Natalie Portman is in the lead for the female lead. (So I guess Marvel wants a wooden performance...)

SOURCE
Hartnett as Thor? :facepalm

Not sure what to make of the Portman rumor. If she is desperate to get a Marvel gig we might have to pool our funds and hire Jeff Gillooly to go after ScarJo.

Missy Peregrym

Cobie Smulders would be good too.

VERY left-field choice. I think she has the acting chops, she was great in every movie that doesn't have "Star" or "Wars" in its title . I'm just worried she's too, you know, petite for the part. It doesn't help if Skars gets cast. Dude's gonna make her look like a midget.

So says Nikki Finke, who broke the Black Widow/Scarlett Johannson news

Hmm. The first two names that come to mind are Sif and Enchantress. I'd wager the speculation is about the former. Nat's great, but I don't really see her as either. Maybe some random chick connected to Blake in Midgard.

I think as well that she would be a bit too petite for what should be a warrior woman.

If they go with a script not so different from the 1st draft, there'll be no Enchantress... or Don Blake. If not Sif, maybe the viking woman... or Loki's lover.

From what we've heard, Blake has been added, and appears towards the end.

What are you guys preferences for Sif's costume? I'm partial to the Son of Asgard one. I think it would translate well to film. I'd cover her midriff, though.

There aren't a lot of chicks. I guess it's up to Karnilla to look hot & actually fill out a costume. Hopefully she'll be in amazonian proportions.

If NP is chosen, she won't be able to fill out the costumel. She is one of the skinniest women in hollywood. She looks anorexic. Best bet would be to cover up the bones & hope the camera plus the added clothes will fill her out.

It could work, but Portman would have to eat and get herself a trainer for this role.

I'd like Sif being near 6' to Thor's 6'4". I envision the Aesir as tall healthy people.

That's part of why I like Cobie Smulders for Sif. She's like 5'9". Respectable warrior goddess size.

Also, people putting that pic of Sif next to Portman and saying she looks all right should probably be aware that that's Sif as whatever the Asgardian equivalent to a teenager is. Meaning she's like half a foot shorter than she'll grow up to be and her figure hasn't filled out completely. For comparison, here's what Thor (who's a little older than Sif) looks like in that period, by the same artist, no less:

Not a scrawny lad by any means, but certainly not as big as we'd like to see Thor on the screen.

I like the idea of Natalie Portman as Sif. Sure, she's not super tall or busty like all the drawings of Sif, but I'd rather see someone with her acting chops in the role than someone who looks like the page, but falls short in the acting category

Meh, there are so many tall actresses who fit the role physically and are still good actresses that I can't help being disappointed that Portman's even being considered. I still favor Smulders, but I would be cool with tamron's suggestion of Missy Peregrym, too. She seems to be a decent actress in Reaper.

Also, since Lobo asked earlier, I'd favor the Son of Asgard costume for movie-Sif, as well. True, she only wore it as a kid, but her adult costumes have all been pretty terrible. I'd say give her a nice winged headdress to go along with the costume and she'd be set.
