I hope Bay stays on for the 3rd movie, but after that, I would like someone else to take over the franchise, if these movies keep making money, I can see us possibly getting 5 or 6 movies.

Yes! This is great news. Don't get me wrong Bayformers 1 was fun when I saw it in theaters (not good for rewatchibility though...except for the final battle which is always fun). He had a chance to do Transformers 1 and 2...it would be great to see someone else do the film...also with Steven Spielberg as executive producer is it possible that he'd concider taking over for Bay?

Then again this could just be Bay talking just to get a bigger pay check for the 3rd...I remember he did the same thing when the first one was released. (Like his paycheck could get any bigger...I hear he made 70 million for transformers 1.)

It can. As long as the sequel makes more money , his back end deal will result in more cash.
I dunno if TF:ROTF can break TDK's BO performance in the US and WW ( 530 million domestic and 1 billion WW) but there is a good chance of TF:ROTF making 400 million in the US and possibly 900 million WW

Won't Peter Cullen be mad old by that point? Peter Cullen is the ONLY person who should voice Prime for the movies. even a reboot.

I would say yes to Spielberg, and both Scotts. Everyone else, I'm not a fan of. MAYBE Mann. But he's more in line with the cops and robbers kind of action and not giant robots.

And Nolan should stick with the movies his doing, which are dark and intelligent. TF would be too different for him, imo.

And Abrams has only done Star Trek. Lets see if he can do another good movie, as I thought M:I3 sucked.

There is no need for a reboot anyways.

Actually, Bay's movies could indeed be described that way. There are many things he could do "better", even as an action director of popcorn entertainment. He just doesn't do it. As we shall see underscored in TF:ROTF.

In Michael Bay's brain, there is only one phrase written all around inside, "BLOW **** THE **** UP."

So I understand if Bay can't do any better.

But it's totally fine with me.

I think after TF2 they should leave Transformers alone for a good 5-6 years; then reboot the franchise. Give us an all out epic G1 on screen adaption of the story featuring, 'The Ark', the crash into the volcano, their entombment on earth for 4 million years,etc..the whole shibang.

Too bad Bay is signed for a trilogy, as well as Shia, Megan and Peter Cullen.

A TF3 will happen.

And then people can think about a reboot.

not everything needs to be played straight and for the film critics

not every war film needs to be the thin red line, there is a whole audience that would very much appreciate a less heavy film experience especially around this time of year

it's so easy to pick a film apart from it's many missed opportunities
while completely missing out on intent

bay caters to this audience while the critics and boarders hate him for not making it the way they wanted

The G1 fanboys are not relevant enough to TF's success to justify making a movie just for them. It makes more sense to make Bay's Transformers 3, because the Bayverse has already proven to be successful. A G1 movie would be a flop, because only G1 fanboys want one. G1 was the 80's, and Bayformers is the 21st century. Get over it.

I'm pretty sure Michaell will just film another movie first and then return to film the third film in the franchise.

No.

The Transformers we have now look better than anything G1 ever put out.

5 years for a reboot...HAHAHAHA. Will not happen. They will continue with this franchise until it stops making money and guess what...it won't for a longgggg longgggggggggggggggg time.

This current franchise could easily do 6 films and I expect it to do so. Might get a different cast and a different director but they will not reboot this franchise after 2 films nor 3.

I was never actually suggesting replacing Bay with any of those Directors, just explaining to whoever i was explaining to that there are many Directors who can handle action, story, character, emotion - Bay can't, he's a one trick pony.

And your NOT a fan of James Cameron?

I'm actually looking foward to seeing Andrew Stantons 'John Carter of Mars' - if he can pull of live action (and deliver some ACTION), i'd love to see him get hold of the Transformers franchise - he might be able to actually breath some character and emotion into all the big CGI robot special effects.

Bay slams 'Transformers' ad campaign

Director Michael Bay has slammed Paramount for its Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen marketing campaign.

Website TMZ has published an email (dated May 4) from Bay to executives, among them CEO Brad Grey and Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, in which the director blasts the studio for not spending enough money publicising the robot sequel's summer release.

"I have been waiting and waiting for the 'anticipation' of an 'event movie' to make it into the 'public zeitgeist'," Bay wrote. "You all talk so glowingly about Transformers being the movie of the summer but unfortunately this has not gotten to the public. I still run into so many people even this weekend with kids that ask 'is that movie coming out this year'."

He continued: "Right now we are not an event. We are just a sequel, which is very different. There is no anticipation. Remember back to Spider-Man 2 - it was everywhere."

Bay also criticised the print campaign for the action film, calling it an "abject failure". He described Entertainment Weekly's coverage as "really weak" and the Los Angels Times's preview as "pathetic".

The filmmaker added that Paramount risked getting "bitten in the ass" by not turning the release into an "event" for cinema-goers.

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen is showing in UK cinemas now and is released in the US on Friday.

I totally agree with him. No one knows when the **** the movie's coming out. I've seen one TV spot, few online ads, zero food ads, it's dry.

I agree with Bay on this. I follow ROTF's news on the net so I know everything about the movie, but aside from trailers I haven't seen much ad campaign going on, and it was not until last week that I start seeing billboards for ROTF around L.A. I think Paramount dropped the ball on this one, and thinking that just because the first movie was successful they can save on marketing and go for cheap advertising.

Yes, that's called "film criticism". I'm sure Ed Wood had the intent to make good movies too, but it's the final product that must be judged.

Quote:

So, just to clarify -- who specifically is Bay catering to (besides Bay-loving fanboys of course)? Part of the problem seems to be that Bay is all over the place in trying to appeal to what he considers the mainstream American public -- the hyperactive kids, the frat-boys, the fans of broad simple comedy, etc. But I kind of thought that the whole concept of alien transforming robots was first and foremost a sci-fi concept. So forgive me for applying a sci-fi aesthetic to these movies and using that as a basis for my criticism.

I can't help but agree w/ Bay regarding ROTF's hype campaign. It's been quiet at best, and there are a lot of people who still don't realize it's out this week. Paramount could be doing A HECK OF A LOT more to hype up this movie, but it's really nothing compared to the hype the first movie got. They're not doing nearly as much as they could be to keep Transformers on the tip of everyone's tongue, when I've seen the K-Mart Transformers ad more times than I've seen commercials for the actual movie!

I dunno if its just because I live in LA, but I don't really see what Bay is talking about.

I've been seeing TV ads and trailers nonstop. The toys are out everywhere. The merch is everywhere.

I mean . . . I'm not sure how they could market it MORE right now.

It sounds to me like Bay wants out. Bay is crying that he wants out I think.
