Default Why no audio commentary in IRON MAN UE?

The commentary play by play is THE very first thing I look for in a DVD purchase and you'd think a fanboy friendly director like Jon Favreau would provide this for his paying comic book audience especially. I mean for crissakes Favreau had an entire show DINNER FOR FIVE based on talking about showbiz. You KNOW he can wax on about IRON MAN for 120 minutes with RDJr at this side. It bums me out to no end they couldn't a full audio commentary in there for the $25 greenbacks they charge now.

ALSO I absolutely hate this practice of single-disc/double-disc editions!
Have you guys noticed DVD prices have gone up from as recently as 5 years ago with Hollywood fiscal smoke and mirrors? For example a film like IRON MAN 2 Disc ULTIMATE EDITION on a sale is $22.99 with the same extras you used to get on a basic edition for $14.99 in like 2004.

I remember vividly buying SPIDER-MAN 2 the day it came out as a two disc edition with the same amount of extras IRON MAN UE has and it was only $14.99??? What happened exactly that we let DVD distributors dupe us into thinking we're getting more while they're CHARGING more (almost double the price), when in fact it's the same?

Just a few short years ago, for a lot of movies, the two-disc format was the ONLY format. Really, isn't this part of the allure of DVDs, getting all of the bonus footage and documentaries? While there no longer is VHS to compete with, why would it be too much to ask to release the two-disc version only?

What bugs me is that now the single-disc is the same price as the double-disc, further jacking up the price of the double-disc. And, more often than not, there is next to nothing in the way of bonus features on the single-disc. This really gripes me. They should go in reverse and sell the single for a budget price and sell the double for what the single is currently selling for.

Sorry for all of the monotony, but I just needed to vent a bit.

In addition another thing that irks me is voluntarily spending the extra money to get the bonus features then a couple of months later, they come out with ANOTHER version with more features (or worse, different features). Then you have to decide whether to buy the DVD again while in the back of your head you're being taunted by the nagging little voice of buyers' remorse.

As a separate rant, all DVDs should include the trailer for the actual movie that's on the DVD, you're already buying the whole film, why not include the teaser for it. It's nice to see the trailer and remember why you bought it in the first place when you re-watch the movie again a few months later.

Agreed. Trailer and commentary are 2 musts when it comes to DVD's.

But when it somes to prices- I don't know where you are but here, Spider-man 2 came out on sale for like 26.99. around there anyway.
To me it seems DVD's are actually taking a dive in prices. Two years ago, $9.99 was the average cheap price for a DVD. Now, stores have them for like 6.00, and if you're lucky $4.00. Not new releases though of course.

Yeah the lack of a commentary was disappointing, especially considering Fav did ones for SWINGERS and ZATHURA in the past.

Another thing I thought should have been in there was the meeting Favreau had with the Marvel guys like Bendis/Millar and co. There were a quick few glimpses of it but to me that story and character stuff is infinitely better than finding out how they did the special effects.

Favreau also did commentary with Vince Vaughn for MADE. No stranger to entertaining commentaries.

I was very disappointed there was no commentary either. I was really hoping for one with Downey Jr. and Favreau, but we didn't get one.

DVD double dipping has been an annoying Hollywood practice for quite some time. But it's also the reason I didn't buy Casino Royale on DVD because they just re-released a three disc version with actual commentaries, deleted footage, and actual extras instead of the garbage they passed off as a two disc DVD special edition back in 2007.

So sometimes when it looks like they will re-do the DVD you just have to be patient.

Just as you guys were, I was disappointed to find no commentary. My theory however, is that they jumped into making the next movie real quick so they simply didn't have the time to lay a commentary track down. I do think that when they re-issue a special edition DVD(likely to coincide with the release of the 2nd movie) they will have that on there.

Wow, I remember it being on sale for like twenty...

But prices are actually going down. The Transformers 2 BluRay, for instance, is only $20 at Walmart.
