As i said, his villains are proportionate to his powers. He doesnt fight the Penguin and Batman doesnt fight Brainiac. So it works.

Building tension in a Superman movie should have almost nothing to do with the level of Superman's powers beyond the fact that Superman probably shouldn't just be able to outright save the day with no effort. It should have to do with the situation, period, and how it is executed. There are all KINDS of ways to build tension in the context of a Superman story.

Is it just me or is everyone here missing the point? Superman is EMOTIONALLY vulnurable!
That's the great appeal of the Superman myth. You have a person who can seemingly accomplish anything and yet he's riddled with the same emotional, human faults that we all have. His character is a metaphor for humanity. He represents the "superman" in all of us, if we only beleived in ourselves. That's how to create a great Superman story that will connect to people and make him "relevant." Have him lose faith in himself. That's his vulnurability and that's the way into the story, not slugging it out with Doomsday. |

put superman in situations where it leaves the audience guessing how he would use his powers to save the day.

The hero has to be physical danger in some point in the movie, look at the Crow, he was invincible till the end of the movie and that's where the tension and drama really kicked in. Same with Superman, if he isn't in some physical danger in parts of the movie, then where is the action supposed to come from? |

The kinda tension I would like to see is maybe have a villain, or villains, fighting with Superman in a knockdown drag out fight. i'm talking the kinda fight that has superman with black eyes, busted lip and nose, and his suit is ripped. Make it look like he is just about defeated, but we would all know better.
Maybe the tension could come from bombs being planted in several major cities by the villain(s), and the only way to stop them is by having superman defeating the villain(s) first.
