yea i dont really see the whole sidekick thing going through in the film. it would be interesting if they tried to do it. but i could just see him being a friend, solider, photographer working with cap and their unit.

I want him to be a soldier who befriends Steve. He's with Steve when Steve & Red Skull "get killed". He also apparently dies, until either an after-credit scene or a flashback in the sequel where the Russian military finds him. Then, he can be Winter Soldier in the sequel.

I think he could make a pretty interesting villain for the second movie.

have bucky only wear his costume in publicity shots with cap hen when he is changing he can comment in how silly the idea is and he feels like cap's sidekck, then cap can be all like " we are all partners , I'm no more a solder than you" or some ****

bucky should be like 2-3 years younger And be a tough mother****er like a 17 year old that can **** up some guards and then gets training. cap should be 18-19 but look 20+ due to the super soldier stuff.

I'm all for winter soldier I cap 3

I say 3 because cap part 1 all be ww2
avenger will be an ensemble piece Nd deal with cap In present day
cap 2 needs to fully thrust cap into the world with a new villan and maybe Sharon Carter

then we return with ww2 flashbacks and bring winter soldier in

and he must be a super ****ing killing machine

They need to do Bucky in the 616 Winter Soldier style, following Brubaker's writing closely. Anything else will be lame lame lame.

I think Bucky would be very important for the studio to use, because he could then be used in the Namor/Cap/Human Torch spinoff and then the Winter Soldier spinoff movie. Thats big money.

Doesn't universal still hold the rights to Namor?

yes i believe it does, so its doubtful he will show up in a cap movie, and i dont know if he is officially under the marvel studios film banner or only a licensed out character like sony/spider-man fox/xmen.

Ya know, while I really like the idea of seeing the Winter Soldier's story told on film, I have to say that I think I'd rather have the character of Bucky portrayed more like the Ultimates' plotline.

well personally like i said i rather leave it open in the film u know say bucky was with cap and it looked like both died. So then to cap and the military they both were lost. But then cap is found in the present and then leave it open for bucky to return as the winter solider if they wanted to. or just dead.

I think they should do what Captain America: White did.
Have Bucky Barnes be too young to join the army like the original story, but have him be like 17 or 16. Then have him become Cap's partner. (maybe make that part more like the Ultimate version, he is Cap's best friend. Not sidekick.)
The film can show that he was there, and was able to help Cap from time to time, but his part could be more of a cameo in the movie. Shown briefly but not major.
I am just sort of thinking aloud.
OK, so in the movie Steve becomes Captain America. We first meet Steve, skinny and ockward. He becomes Cap, is trained, and costumed, and becomes Captain America. He joins the troops and is still and outsider. He is befriended by the company sidekick Bucky Barnes (a Jimmy Olsen type role perhaps from Superman Returns). Bucky goes with him on a few missions and sort of becomes his partner (costume or not?).
Then Bucky and Steve go on one final mission, Steve is lost and Bucky is presumed to die.
Steve wakes in the present, and we don't know where Bucky is.

(bucky's character can be a small role, and expanded in the Avengers movie when Steve has flashes about his past and about Bucky's death. Then maybe a Winter Soldier film later.
And maybe even an All Winner's Squad movie with Namor, Cap, android Human Torch, and Bucky.)

Speaking of which, whatever happened to Captain America: White?

What if the character of Bucky Barnes was used (in the first Captain America movie) to show how Steve Rogers, even as Captain America, was socially awkward and an outcast. Like Bucky, a 17 year old kid, is a ladies man and friends with everyone. Where as Steve Rogers, even as Captain America, feels separated and unable to connect with his fellow soldiers or women. (Not that women troubles would be a huge part of the movie, and that Cap is a social leper.)
It could just show that Steve is more introspective, maybe from years of being a social outcast prior to the serum, and Bucky is more a social butterfly.

He cracked jokes, and was a bit more talkative than Cap, I think.
Plus I read a story in Captain America #600, I think it was, where Steve and Bucky are at a dance for the troops. Steve is a wallflower, content with sitting on the sidelines while Bucky is out dancing and I think with a few different girls.
He tries to get Steve to get out and dance to, have fun and enjoy himself. I think after talking for a while Steve says, "Remember when I punched out Hitler? That was fun."

I would prefer to see Steve as a man who is a gentleman and really fits into the 1940's era. A classy man in a classic time. That way when he eventually gets frozen and wakes up in 2012 for the Avengers, he will seem more like a fish out of water but still an important person to have.

Thomas Dekker. The only young actor I could see playing Bucky AND The Winter Soldier.

Yelchin would be a good Bucky. NOt so much Winter Soldier
Gordon Levitt would be a good Winter Soldier. NOt so much Bucky

Jamie Bell on the other hand I think would fit both

I think Bucky, besides being a vehicle to show that despite being a perfect human Steve is still an outsider because he is a perfect human, Bucky could also represent the portion of young Americans who wanted so badly to help fight in the war that they sneaked in some how. I have heard a few stories about how a guy lied about his age to get into the army or navy to help in the war.
Barnes is too young, and a talkative guy. He is also the son of another popular soldier who died before the war. So Bucky could sort of sneak into the war on his father's reputation.

Good idea Artistsean

Bucky could also sneak in thanks to Cap, who understands wanting to fight in the war but cant
