Default Mega Thread:Crossover Events

I would like to dedicate this thread to crossover events and how they may or may not be needed and why or how you believe so.

Now I will make the first argument. Since their is a possibility that Nolan and the director may decide to not follow Marvel and tie Superman to Batman,Flash,Hawkman,Wonderwoman,Martian Manhunter, and etc who are in the JLA. But a crossover event can be done in any DC film and doesn't necessarily mean it has to be this one. Since Superman is such a figure head I can see why they dont think it would be. Superman and Batman are the most known superheroes across the globe and far more known in western and international societies than any Marvel Hero many may say and doesnt need a back story due solely to those facts. Since they may be thinking everyone knows superman knows batman blah blah blah. So they may not fill the need to make a scene saying hey look he is here too. Now I would expect a crossover somehow in a Green Lantern or Flash film due to the fact they arent figure heads such as them and many don't recognize these characters like fans. Some would say well they should learn from Marvel and do crossover events. Marvel may find it needed to crossover due to the fact that it deeps the story and that if no one knows this guys and they will now.So if a crossover event occurs here it will be minor almost unnoticed the first time and may be just unconfirmed rumors or speculations like Thor in The Incredible Hulk. Their main goal in this film is to get Superman back on the podium he rightfully deserves like Batman. A crossover event can occur at any moment and before or after the film because its so easy to do just by showing or having a conversation and his name comes up. So that is my first argument get Superman where he belongs first then connect the dots.

With Batman stuck in his own verse and Superman stuck in HIS own verse... officially (confirmed by Nolan)...

There's really no point of any other crossovers.

Batman/Superman is THE crossover. Anything else would be majorly inferior.

Too bad it won't happen now with Nolan keeping them seperate.

I think its a mistake not to at least have a cameo of bruce/clark in each other's films..Something like a shot of Bruce sitting in the Batcave watching Superman and Brainiac duke it out on his computer monitors, or a shot of Clark sitting at his desk at the DP and in comes perry and He gives him a story to cover, maybe an interview or something with Bruce at some type of an awards event in Metropolis.

It wouldnt kill them to do it, and it would certainly create some DARN GOOD buzz.
We're talking two of the biggest heroes in CB history here. To not at least mention each other in their respected films is just plain crazy imo.
You would not only have superman fans wanting to see it, but fans of the bat as well, and that in turn would equal more $$$$ at the BO. Isnt that the whole point??

I disagree. Though it would be awesome for the moment, all of us (not just the *****y fanboys) will always wish there was more. Even on a miniscule level, it would tarnish the films.

Just look at Batman Forever. When Bruce mentioned to Dick the circus must be "halfway to Metropolis by now", am I really the only one who was bummed by the lack of followup?

Yeah just like SR mentioned Gotham city, really ruined the movie for me

I don't see how a brief mention hurts anything. I do agree they need follow up if they did something like that. I think most people agree that you need to focus on one character at a time and develop their individual film first. Some of us though would like the door to be left open the characters to share the universe rather than each be the only superhero in their respective realities. Which is what's been done in all superhero movies now except the new Marvel ones.

I don't see how a brief mention excites anything either. It's funny from this exciting confirmation from Nolan himself all you whiny people can think about is the fact that neither movie will reference the other. Whoopefreakindo

Dude it was old news to begin with though exciting to hear from Chris Nolan himself about it. so don't be mistaken i am excited about it. Simply thought we'd get a live action DCU, ie more superheroes in the world than just one. No mention necessary just thought the posibility was open.

Well it didn't seem like it lol. I think WB is just being cautious. Green Lantern isn't going to reference any other superhero either. I think WB is waiting till The Avengers comes out to see how that does.

yeah you're probably right, it makes sense to be cautious about the whole crossover thing, we don't even know if Avengers is gonna be a hit.

well those ppl would be in a JLA movie if its true to the comics obviously. They may wait on The Avengers but DC would still have a hard time convincingly merging them all cuz each hero has its own theme of villians and environments Green Lantern rarely rarely stays on Earth to long,Wonder woman on the other hand is very feminist and would cause controversy among women groups if she is not feminist so hates men until she meets and falls for Batman Which would be a awesome scene. But yea if they do consider a crossover event it may just be a news broadcast says something about Gotham or a conversation about someone who went their or a small convo on the capped crusader rumors blah blah but Marvel characters have all similar environments and themes except Thor

It probably will happen but not until after a Superman trilogy. Believe me I can wait for a crossover movie.

I want a crossover to wait until the legal issues are settled. I think that would bode better for Supes if he is teaming with Batman.

Yea as cool as crossovers are. DC isnt in the same place marvel studios is with their films. With all their characters(dc) either not in development or in stages of developmental hell. its probably best to have each character be solo for now. But leave it open in the films that they could all exist together. So then maybe later after gl gets a film done, superman reboot is out, and if a flash or ww can happen in next 3-4 yrs. Maybe then do a crossover/jl movie then.

No, that's most definitely not the whole point.
The point is to tell a good story. If cameos aren't needed in the stroy they want to tell, then why force it?

That's about it.

There won't be crossovers anytime soon between DC characters, thanks God and Nolan.

Good buzz about what exactly? A movie the main director and guide of these movies is not even interested in?

Ah yes, it might get a good thing for the hype. But if they're not actually doing something with it, it's just a cheap gimmick. When the whole point is just doing anything for the bucks you have those generic crappy superhero movies and things like Aliens vs Predator.

Well, I take it as this: would you rather have a smart man behind the films of Batman and Superman(it'll still be a great film even if Chris isn't directing and just producing), or a Justice League film directed by George Miller? Lol.

I don't really care for a JL myself though, imo. I always thought the Avengers to be a better idea film-wise, just because the Justice League always had more players(Avengers can always just be a core group, like three or four; the Justice League is about five or six, possibly more. PLUS the fact that people might bicker over a white or black Green Lantern), and I would much prefer a Batman/Superman feature any day. And if it comes in like twelve or so years, I can wait.

Well, there is no doubt in my mind a cameo of Clark and Bruce in each others films would work.
To me it's silly keeping them separate in the films when its a shared universe in the comics, and the films are based off the comics.
i'm not saying have them mention every single hero in the DCU, thats silly, but a bruce cameo in superman would be fine. Just Bruce, not Bats.

But why would Bruce even be in the movie? if hes there it would most probably be because hes chasing down a criminal

I say keep them seperate until they decide to do a team up movie.

sure it would be nice to have a shared dc film verse. But it just sucks cause it doesnt look to be the plan right now, plus all the major player characters are stuck in different stages of development or not even going anywhere. So its a bit tough to get a film verse going. When you dont even know what to do with each character solo.

well yea JLA does have lots more members than the avengers but they still have a core which will always be:

Superman
Batman
Wonder-woman
Green Lantern
Hawkman
The Flash

Thats it now if you refering to the show JLA Unlimited even still those where the core everyone one else were members but compare them to soldiers while these guys are the generals
