Get someone else. He's the Torch when it comes to the Marvel / DC universe.

I can understand the feeling, with regards to Evans as Cap. I like him the most of these options, but there is the nagging thought that he is Johnny Storm. That said, F4 is not part of the Marvel Universe and if they ever are, it will be someone else playing Johnny Storm.

I'm with Franklin. I've already "been there, done that" with Evans as a superhero. Would prefer someone else. But none of those other options either.

You make no sense man... but, judging by your name and location, do you think it is fair to admit that, as an obvious fantastic four fan, you may be a teensy weensy bit biased in your way of thinking?
Also, considering F4 is getting rebooted, and the Cap/IM/Avengers movieverse is seperate to the previous F4 movie's one anyway, do you think it really matters? Not to mention the fact that you're completely neglecting the fact that theres every chance the F4 reboot surpasses the original in every way, including a much better Johnny Storm? (Really, i'm not expecting this to lead anywhere. It's like trying to convince a Dalek not to kill)

Y'know...I'm actually going to throw my vote in for Wilson Bethel. He's different, he's kinda got the look, and he's NOT Channing Tatum.

Yeah, I agree. Once they reboot Fantastic Four and start rolling out all these Cap and Avengers movies, it won't really matter that Evans was HT.
It's not like getting Christian Bale to also play Superman. The F4 movies were largely forgettable, and Evans was only a part of the ensemble, rather than a lead. He'll be playing a completely different character, too. And the 1940's era feel will really contrast with the campy modern day feel of the F4 movies. I think Marvel and DC have a larger problem with the Reynolds movies than Marvel would with passing Evans off as Cap. |

Not so sure about that. This is RR's first time as a costumed superhero. And how much of the general public even saw Blade 3 and Wolverine? More people have seen F4 and F42 then the two RR movies and again, RR was out of a costume while Evans was in one.

Considering how quickly new guys are added to the mix and guys that make sense are removed from the competition, having the poll is sort of irrelevant.
Anyhow of the seven guys that were mentioned in the running yesterday (yes this poll is missing two of them), based on acting skills I'd give the edge to Sebastian Stan based on his great performance in Kings. Would he be accepted as Cap by the fans not being American born and not being much of a physical specimen? That's up in the air. It does say a lot for him being the only non-American born actor of the guys tested though so somebody involved in the casting agrees with me on his acting abilities. As I said in the other thread, I suspect Evans has the fan edge right now. That edge is entirely a result of the rather thin crop of talent and/or most people not knowing anything about the other actors...well except for the almost universal loathing of Tatum. Evans is very good at playing himself, but that is not the personality that Cap should be portrayed as IMO. I suspect if they were to throw other Marvel recycled actors like James Franco or Matt Long into the mix, the Evans support would dry up pretty fast. |

Evans is synonomous with the Torch in the way that Hammil is with Skywalker? Shatner is with Kirk? C'mon, seriously? For me there's a world of difference; Evan's was a character featured in a largely forgettable franchise; hardly deserving of being grouped with such illustrious, iconic company.

Sad to see the other thread close before we got the official name. Saw the new earlier about evans doing an indie film. But was glad to read over at joblo and iesb that production already wrapped last week on that. So evans is still likely an contender for captain america. For me as i said the other day i am hoping evans or vogel score the role. I really dont want to see tatum or phillippe as cap. i would take phillippe though over tatum.

Honestly, the only way the average joe would remember Evans as the Human Torch forever is if he ran across a building in kerosene, yelled fast talking obscenities, lit himself on fire and leaped off the building.

Besides, I hope Marvel will go the WB route and listen to the fans. Like with the casting of Batman in 2003. They swayed on Bale because of the fan support when it was down to Bale and Gyllenhaal.

The thing is I dont think Marvel can listen to the fans because so many people want so many different things for Cap. This is true with all casting choices, except with this casting there is a lot wider spectrum for what people want If they listen to fans they would need some kind of way to mix: Brad Pitt 10 Years Ago, matt Damon 10 years ago, some ugly guy (so Cap is a "pretty boy"), John Cena's muscles, the 616 Cap comics, a little bit of the Ultimate comics, and natural charisma

I don't think fan support had anything to do with Bale's casting. Bale was always Nolan's choice for Batman. The other actors being screen tested was just a formality.

I think Vogel is the safety net, if they can't get someone better. I don't think he should be Cap but I would at least keep an open mind if he does get the part.
