To me, IM2 took everything that made the first film great and either kept it or added to it. That means IM2 is the better film. |

I think what it is with me is that I have these expectations(I try not to but it's hard sometimes)and although they may not all happen in the film it doesn't ruin anything but it takes me a second viewing to sit back watching it accepting what they gave us. That's why I usually enjoy these movies based on properties I/we grew up on the second time around even more. I swear it's going to be tough waiting for the Thor film once IM2 comes out on DVD/Blu-Ray. I'll be watching IM, IM2 and TIH back to back most likely a number of months before the release of Thor. |

What the first movie had that the second movie didn't was the awesome m1 and origin in the beginning, as well as the rest of the dessert stuff. it also had very dramatic moments. but the action was lacking.
what the second movie had that the first movie didn't was war machine and his awesome origin, more nick fury, more humor, black widow, better villains, much better action. while it may not have been as dramatic as the first there was still enough seriousness to balance things out. it may not have been as balanced as the first but it was definitely there. lets not forget about the prison scene and the whole "I'm dying" subplot. but there was more humor than seriousness this time. which for me isn't bad at all cuz i was afraid it would try to go all dark knight on us. this movie also had more of a connection with the marvel universe as a whole. it's close, but I'd say definitely 2, but not by much. if that makes any sense.

IMO Whiplash was treated as the real villain. Hammer was just a means to an end for Vanko. Whiplash knew exactly what he was doing and he used Hammer for everything he could get out of him resource wise. Hammer got played like a Fender.

After the race track scene, Whiplash was pretty much set aside in favor of Justin Hammer. For the remainder of the movie he had like 5 lines of dialogue and 3 of them were about his bird.

i like the first one a little bit better.
Those two dancing scenes in IM2 were just embarassing.

I voted Iron Man 2.
I felt the action sequences were better done and more engaging. And there was a lot more going on storywise, which I liked.

To me it's pointless to compare the two, because I just see this as chapter two in the story of Tony Stark.
In IM1 you have what is IMO the best origin story of any comicbook/superhero movie. In IM2, you have the continuation of the story, where the stakes are bigger, the action is bigger, and everything is just bigger. To me this is text book 101 on how you do a comic book movie. The IM series has everything on what made any of the other comic book movies successful, and tunes it up a notch. You have all of the serious acting that the Nolan Batman films had without being overly serious, you have the sense of adventure and fun that the Spider-man films had without the soap opera drama, and you have all the eye candy that the Transformers and G.I. Joe fims had, without the rediculous stuff for the pre-pubecent ADD crowd. I'll let others argue if it's a better movie than this or that, who cares, this is exactly what a comic book movie should be, and in that respect both of these movies represent the cream of the crop of comic book films. |

Don't you guys think that Iron Man 2 had sort of a weak ending? In my opinion it did compared to Iron Man 1...
When it comes down to it though, Iron Man 2 was really entertaining. I loved watching War Machine and ESPECIALLY Black Widow

Honestly though if there was one thing I thought was better about Iron Man 2, it was the third act. The action rocked.
I thought the last scene itself was very good. I don't think they could ever top "I am Iron Man!" That was so darn shocking and awesome, but they did good i thought.

Iron Man - original recipe.
I admire IM2's effort to make things more expansive, but I feel the execution in the first film was a clear notch above.

At first I thought it was a tie. but the more I think about it, the more I like the first one better.
While the sequel had more interesting villians it also had the stupid drunken scene. |

I loved the drunk scene. And as a long time Iron Man fan, I'm glad it made it's way into one of these films. I do think that it's very likely as close as we are going to get to Demon In A Bottle in these movies, and I'll take it. I just don't think seeing Tony armorless, homeless and drunk for most of an Iron Man film will work in a movie.

The impression I got from Hammer is a kind that gives off his feeling of cockyness and ego. But underneath that, you see a much darker side to him slip out during some of the scenes with Whiplash. He's a good character.

I liked him as well. And Hammer wasn't really a completely incompetent arms guy. With the exception of the ex-wife, all the weaponizing he did on the War Machine armor worked like it was supposed to.

Yeah, but weren't those standard weapons? I think the ex-wife was his only own creation. Vanko probably did most of the work on it, like updating the software that would allow him to take control of the suit.

I'm pretty sure that Vanko wasn't the one who weaponized the mark II suit. Hammer comes in and tells him about it in a way that leads me to believe Vanko didn't know about it. Yes, the ex-wife was the only weapon he actually invented but he was still competent enough to integrate the other weapons into the Mark II suit. He also upgraded the software which is how Vanko was able to take remote control of the WM suit(as Vanko said, Hammer's software is ****).

I think IM 1 was the better movie in terms of a solo movie. I think by itself it was really good.
however as a transitional piece inbetween the avengers and ironman 3. I thought it was insanely great. However, on its own I feel would of been weak. Overall, I am happy with the output and could care less about rating it. |
