I just hope his "scream" is better than the one in the early 1990's X-Men cartoon. Everytime I watch that now I just howl with laughter. Sounds like a guy getting raped.

I really want to see The Last Exorcism to get a grasp on this guy's acting ability since Banshee is one of my favorite X-Men. On the plus side the movie has gotten really good reviews and now the director is giving him a lot of praise. But on the other hand, I'm not sure I'm liking the comment that he always acts like he's stoned during auditions. The guy goes into a lot of detail into why the kid was bad at first but is pretty vague about how he suddenly revealed himself to be great, aside from his music talent.

I'll probably get a better view of him after seeing The Last Exorcism but right now I'm skeptical.

Michael Fassbender (Irish/German actor cast young Magneto) will surely have to change his own accent to play Magneto, but an Irish character like Banshee won't show up sounding Texan, will he?

Eh, I'm not getting my hopes up that they'll keep his origin. The lad they got to play Colossus claims he even auditioned in Russian, but was told not to worry about it. Probably because he only has a quote or two. But still, I've grown up with these characters, and hate seeing them stripped off their roots.

Maybe that's just me though.
I think that he will. If they went through the trouble to find an actor with Banshee's look, then I'm pretty sure that they'll follow through the rest of the way. It'd seem pointless to fulfill only some of the characterization requirements.

Let's hope so! I'm sure even if it's in the script and everything is cast right and worked out, the studio themselves will have the power to say "That's not important, just Americanize it, keep it simple."

I think the only international character to retain their national identity so far was Nightcrawler, so it's not looking good for Banshee sticking to his Irish roots.

"On Caleb landry Jones as Banshee/Sean Cassidy..

An Irishman with a sonic scream in the comics, Jones' Cassidy is a young American here, the big lungs remain intact"

"I am a bit miffed that they changed Banshee's Irish origins, he was pretty much the only super hero we had."

Eh, as predicted.. Americanized. I almost had a touch of hope there for a moment.

Does it really matter??? As long as the story is solid, I don't care if he has an Irish accent or not. This is a non-issue to me.

I guess not. I mean, with Hugh Jackman, we could have had Wolverine showing up sounding Australian, but to keep people from complaining, they had him do an accent. Hm..

Unless the actor cannot do an irish accent properly, then why the hell not? He doesn't need 20min of backstory; the guy's irish, moved to the US with his folks...... and carry on with film.

Either he can't do the accent, or they just don't care. The latter is not a mindset I like when adapting comics to movies.

What I find funny is, I debated people for months over having Rupert Grant cast as Banshee just because he is a ginger. I hated, hated the very thought of it. But then I saw his film Cherrybomb, where he pulls off playing Irish fairly well. So as soon as I got used to that idea, then they just quickly cast the ginger from the last exorcism.
