He's the badass normal guy of the group. You could argue that Nick Fury is also normal, but he probably uses the infinity formula so I doubt it. Even if he didn't, almost every fan's convinced already that he does because he mentioned Tony's father and he probably fights in WWII.

Back to Coulson, he's a guy who looks normal yet Clark Gregg pulls off his presence so well that he doesn't even need to kick someone's ass to know that this guy is capable of doing so. The love has only grew since the leaked Thor trailer.

Well I did say he can come off as a badass because of Clark Gregg's screen presence and he seems to handle himself very well with RDJ on screen.

But yeah he's funny too. I should've mentioned that.

I think the fans like Coulson cuz he was literally the first indication of a larger Marvel Universe so its kind of cemented his place in Marvel's Cinematic Universe.

Clark Gregg/Agent Coulson is awesome.

I just want to throw that out there. I dont think he is an under-appreciated actor, but i think it has gone under the radar of how great of an addition to the Marvel (Movie) Universe his Agent Coulson character is. I hope he gains more popularity and transitions into the mainstream comic universe.

While through these major films, they have managed to make Coulson a badass and give us small samples of his character and history and i think its awesome. Glad to see him be listed as one of the big names along with the other Avengers, its well deserved.

I wish they used an actual SHIELD agent from the comics. They have plenty and most of them have gone underutilized. If he ends up having a larger role in the films then guys like Dum Dum Dugan then I'll be very annoyed.

I think Dum Dum will be replaced by Coulson in the Avengers movies.

I think only the most hardcore would have picked up on guys like Gabe Jones, Jasper Sitwell, Clay Quartermain or Alex Pierce. Especially if they were only referred to by their last names like Coulson was. Not to mention at the time most fans wouldn't have expected a SHIELD reference to come out from those interactions from IM1.

I wouldn't mind if Coulson was an addition to SHIELD and he showed up alongside guys like Dugan but if he's basically stealing their role then that is just lame.

i liked the unassuming nature of him when we first met him. just thought he was a nobody wanting to talk with stark on his companies behalf, like maybe he had a project stark could work on or something. then you realize he is a shield agent. actually see his attitude change in iron man 1 when he has to spring into action. goes from non assuming to assertive when there is a threat.
