I thought it had more to do with signing the talent. Everyone was signed for three films. So, signing Halle Berry and company would've been far too costly for any farther films. X3 certainly kicked butt at the box office and especially on DVD but it seems this path (prequel) will land big bucks while keeping costs down.

Plus, next summer is going to be THE most brutal box office battle of all-time. Say what you want about Fox, they're no financial dummies.

Definetly.

X3 had the potential and first week boxoffice to end with the numbers of Spiderman 1, or Ironman at the very least.

It had the #14 biggest opening weekend of All time.

Better than Ironman, Spiderman 2, some Harry Potter sequels and even Avatar! And ALL of these movies ended with bigger results.

The problem of X3 was its quality and the critics/mouth to mouth. If it would have been a better movie, the boxoffice should have surpass the $600k mark, at least.
