![]() Last week, behind-the-scenes images finally surfaced of the Superman Lives costume for the defunct Tim Burton film. Now, glance further into the alternate universe of Superman films that never were as Michael Dougherty reveals (courtesy of Moviehole) what would have happened in his proposed sequel to 2006's Superman Returns. Promising first and foremost that the sequel would have been action heavy, Dougherty explained that it would have revolved around a group of Kryptonians who come to Earth and, while they wouldn't have been outright evil a la General Zod, they would have challenged Superman's views of his role on Earth. "Brainiac was always intersting," Dougherty also teased, regarding what classic Superman villains he would have included in the screenplay. The Trick 'r Treat director also offered some hope for fans who would like to see Brandon Routh again don the cape and tights, though admits that he doesn't have any specific insider knowledge. “I’m sure they’ll talk," he said, referring to the upcoming Warner Bros. production, "... at least I’d like to think so”. Click here to head to Moviehole and hear the entire podcast interview with Dougherty. |

Well I guess after doing their remake of Superman 1 the next logical step would be to do a remake of Superman 2
. I'm so glad Singer and company are not involved in the new movie, they can't seem to stop living in the past.

I have a feeling that all this older stuff is now being released to gauge the public's reactions so that they don't repeat any mistakes.

Can these three dillweeds (dougherty, Singer and whoever the other writer is, Harris I believe) NOT come up with something mo re original than this??
Unbelievable garbage... Kryptonian villains AGAIN, sequel... they just wanted to remake everything, absolutely NO damn originality. Metallo, Darkseid, BRAINIAC (he barely makes a mention of it as a throw away like oh yeah we would have included him in). I'd rather have seen Doomsday...

Well as Dougherty says here and in the slashfilm podcast interview, development on a Superman Returns sequel didn't get past the conversation phase.

Remember people - these are Dougherty's ideas not necessarily Harris' or Singer's.

But to be honest, as much as i liked SR and while the idea is interesting, i'm not a fan of a sequel with more Kryptonians. I'd much prefer they brought in new characters from the comics that haven't been featured on the big screen. Both writers are also IMO talented directors in their own right so i'll keep an eye on what they put out in the future.

Sounds like the report that stated Jason would be "snuffed out"
I wonder if that was really an idea thrown around

More story details from IESB.net
EDIT: It says it's one of the outlines and they didn't finish the script, but I like it. I think it could have been good and I'd love to see Routh as Superman again. Last edited by Dark_Lord; 12-09-2010 at 05:06 PM. |

Only looking at the broad-stroke details given from Iesb I am pretty intrigued about where they would have taken the story in this sequel. If that's really where they were gonna take it then I am kind of bummed it wasn't actually made.

Just read that, sounds intesting but not sure I liked the whole Brainiac-taking-over-Jason and Superman possibly having to kill him. More super-angst!
Uncannily, I wrote a brief outline of what I'd like the SR Sequel plot to be about a year ago and had the same idea of Brainiac floating in the depths of space, detecting the New Krypton radiation, coming to Earth and finding Superman by his bio-signature. Although my take also included the Eradicator and never had Brainiac pretend to be an ally to Superman. http://forums.superherohype.com/show...c#post17040865 |

This is the sequel I was looking forward too and with it taking place only weeks after SR means they were going to 9 out of 10 have Superman tell Lois the truth about him being Clark Kent. I am sad this movie would not see the light of day it seems like it would have been epic and I think the best way to solve the Jason thing after a fight like that was to do something like Mon-El where you can put him in the phantom zone till he was able to cure him only for the Legion to come along and do that for Superman giving us a good Legion movie as well.

I really hate that we'll never see this. It would have been a pretty epic movie.

They should've went with a story like this right out of the gate instead of what we got with Superman Returns. It could've been one of the best ever.

Actually this story could have been a good set up for Superman Returns giving a reason for why Superman left if Singer wasn't going to use the he left after finding Zod and them alive to see if there were more like him route.

But yeah, I would have loved a sequel like that, and most of all, I just really wanted Brandon back as Superman in another film because he's perfect in the part.
