They could grey him up much more. Snyder did that with all the Minutemen survivors in the present of Watchmen. Pa Kent is generally grandfather age around the time Superman begins. It's been that way in all the comics (except Birthright due to the Smallville TV series tie-in) and even in The Animated Series and all the Animated movies.... and the serials, and the Reeves series. |

If he's playing Pa Kent, I'll be pretty excited. I didn't think he was doing much acting in movies that he isn't directing these days.

Interesting factoid.
Kevin Costner (Pa Kent) is the same height as Henry Cavill (Superman), 6'1. I do think Snyder will do some camera tricks with Cavill here. |

With the modern makeup and effects they could easily do a Benjamin Button with Costner, making him look mid-40's when they find Kal-El and mid-60's when Clark leaves for Metropolis and he passes away.

Yeah, I have a feeling this will be similar to Watchmen and what Snyder did with Carla Gugino and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

I dont know how I'd feel about that. I really didn't care for the aging make-up in Watchmen.

Same, but all of Snyder's big movies that rely heavily on CGI and makeup have that artificial look to them...
None of Snyder's big budget work has that down to earth 'real' approach. He's the anti-Nolan in many ways. I'm worried about overuse of stylized greenscreen and CG here, but that's another thread. |

Kevin Costner as Pa Kent? Definitely going the Birthright route.

since Goyer wrote it, he will take ideas from several different stories...not just Birthright

I would be very happy with that myself... It was a good read. Aside from the huge orange insect in the middle of Downtown Metropolis, it was a page turner.
If they had to bring Lex back, Again, that would be the best one. And Pa Kent's issues in the story was the most interesting I've seen for the character. Very relatable. |

You don't think Batman would visit his folks if they were still alive? And the Fonz was popular because he wore leather, rode a motorcycle and punched a jukebox to turn it on...not because he was a loner

Maybe the Kents could be gunned down in a mob war or fed into a wood chipper or something else suitably grim so Supes can be angst-ridden like Batman.

I see him doing Pa Kent.
I know the Kent's are usually older than most when they first find Clark, but I never liked them being practically already senior citizens. I also really liked John Schneider as Johnathan. A bit younger than would be ideal for me, which is actually why I like this casting. It feels like it will be similar to that, only older, but not too old. All that said, Costner is 6'1", same height as Cavill. I wonder if they will tweak that a bit with lifts in scenes together, just to keep Clark a touch taller? Apparently in Smallville, though Tom and John are both listed at 6'3", Tom would often be in socks, and John in shoes, shooting a scene, and Tom still looks taller.
