I have to disagree. Merely having both of his parents alive doesn't automatically lead to what you are stating. There is something to be said about writing. Lazy writing yes, but with a little thought, I'm confident it won't come across that way. Plus Superman is not Batman and I don't like the idea of a brooding Superman. Plus how think how much of an emotional payoff it would be if Pa Kent actually met his demise in the second or third movie.

I think having his parents alive could be an opportunity to introduce to the audience the real Clark Kent which would allow him to express himself about everything he is experiencing.

Even Nolan's Batman series has Alfred as a confidant and allow the audience to see what he is thinking and feeling.

This is a fantastic choice. I think Pa Kent will have more of a role that Lois in this one.

Not the same, plus Alfred was originally not part of Batman's life. Regardless, Batman has an adult existence, not a too-good-to-be-believed perfect white picket fence family. The Kents were kept alive because they got rid of Superboy. The mistake was keeping them around kept Superman himself Superboy forever. It was a well-meant change and a somewhat subtle one but it has been part of the reason for Superman's decline to near-irrelevance over the last 25 years.

it seems like they're going that route. despite Snyder helming the film, i certainly sense Nolan's presence. he might not be telling Snyder what to do...but i hope the fact that Nolan is producing influences Snyder to step up his game and make a movie that's more timeless than his previous efforts.

Wow, Kevin Costner. Brilliant. I would of never picked him out of a lineup by memory but thinking about it, he brings a great face to the franchise and would make a great Pa! Plus, he brings an experienced face to the franchise, one who people could relate to judging by his longevity in career.

I'll tell ya....Costner has made some great films......Silverado, The Big Chill, The Untouchables, Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, Dances With Wolves, Revenge, A Perfect World, Tin Cup, Open Range, Thirteen Days, JFK.

Also some duds, The Postman, Waterworld, Wyatt Earp (even though he wasn't bad as Wyatt though) 3000 Miles to Graceland.....

The man is only 56 years old also and it seems like he has been around forever.

Solid casting though if he winds up being Jonathan "Pa" Kent though.

But if Batman's family was alive he would visit them because it's evident by how much he misses them and loves them. Just because you love your family doesn't mean everything is perfect and "white picket fence" like as you have so stated MANY times. Loving your family and wanting to see them doesn't mean he has to seek advice because he doesn't know how to be a man and solve things on his own and I have no idea where you get this from. Maybe your parents didn't love you enough as a child, I don't know...I don't get along with my father but I still love him and my mother. Just because you visit home doesn't mean you are running from your problems. I do think that Jonathan passing away should be a catalyst for Clark to become Superman. But I just don't think that going home to ask for advice makes him weak. And really relevance has nothing to do with telling a great and interesting story.

As far as who he'd play, I'd really like to think Jonathan Kent if anyone... Much as I love him as an actor, I wouldn't want him to touch Perry White or Jor El. Nowhere near the range required for them...

Come on guys, we all love Kevin Costner for various movies (Untouchables, Silverado, Waterworld, another guilty pleasure of mine), but kinda like Keanu Reeves, we can all agree that he doesn't have much range and is not a totally fantastic actor, right? They just pick their roles well.

Costner as Jonathan Kent? I like it.

And I for one am all for BOTH Kents being a presence in Clarks adult life. It allows the audience an opportunity to see Clark in a different light. A more personable perspective.

Having both parents still around gives them an opportunity to present a side of Superman that has yet to be explored in the movie universe.

Of course this is just being made to keep the rights from Siegel's daughter (his wife passed away just recently), so it's not like they give a crap about getting Superman right I guess.
