Yes he was, tho Balder and Thor have the same FATHER but Different MOTHERS, they wouldn't have to look alike.

In an interview Brannagh (spelling?) talked about how excited he was to be making Thor and how he wanted to add in all these characters from the comic, he ran through a list and Balder was mentioned. So he wanted to include Balder (probably cut because they didn't want to clutter the story concept of Loki finding out he isn't Odin's real son by ading another 1/2 brother in.)
But he will probably be including later, and they can always use the concept of Odin hiding Balder from everyone because of the prophecy thing about Ragnarok. So They can introduce him without much worry.

Also, that just made me think, will the last Thor movie involve Ragnarok?

Yeah the Balder idea is what I've been saying could happen.
I think tho, that Odin having the vision of Balder being killed an starting a Ragnarok would make him hide Balder probably out in the open. Where better than one of Odin's guards, or even on earth?

We need a tragic ending for Balder. Maybe Karnilla kills her beloved in true anti-hero fashion? Might make it unexpected and romantic.

I'm still wondering if that guard that picked up the Casket AT Jotunheim in the beginning WAS Balder.

It's high possibility that Balder will be introduced Thor, and that's just fine with me because I wasn't really bothered by his absence in the first film.

^^^ No, Thor and Odin are the only Asgardians that are able to lift Mjolnir.
