Shock 2011/2012 NHL Thread: Cup Quest

Well, congrats to the Boston Bruins!

Another season has gone, but another one will be here before you know it!

I personally begin this off-season without a team

Anyhow..bring on the trade talk, hopes for the new season, and whatever else!

Wings have been re-signing all of their guys... overpaying a bit perhaps, but I like the team for the most part. Just need to not re-sign Bertuzzi and some of the other older guys. Thank God they didn't get Jagr.

I like Eager to the Oilers. The 3yr/3.3m contract is pretty good, and if they decide to put him on a line with their kids (maybe even RNH) he'll be able to protect them a bit more than they'd otherwise be.

Canucks got most of the pieces back too. Torres goes to the Yotes, and Ehrhoff's obviously gone, but they got Salo and Higgins back. Both low risk, potentially high reward, and Higgins'll get a chance to play high up in the lineup with Raymond out for the first bit of the season.

Hey Immortal, love the thread title. lol

So lots of moves today.

- Raffi Torres signed a two-year, contract worth $1.75 million per season with the Coyotes. He played with a lot of toughness and grit but was reckless at times. Not really sad to see him go.

- The Colorado Avalanche have acquired goalie Semyon Varlamov from the Washington Capitals in exchange for draft picks.

- The Edmonton Oilers have signed tough guy Ben Eager to a three-year $3.3 Million contract.

- Jeff Halpern inked a one-year $875,000 year deal with the Washington Capitals on Friday.

- Mathieu Garon has re-united with Dwayne Roloson, signing a US$2.6-million, two-year deal.

And obviously Jagr. Him in Philly seems strange, but it's an interesting team the Flyers are putting together, now that they have Talbot too.

I'd hate to be a Pens fan right about now...I'm sure they were thinking that Jagr signing with them was going to be a sure thing..and he goes and signs with Philly? Yep..can't be happy about that!

#NHL news. Don't take your eyes off #Flyers for 1 second. Word is they made a solid pitch to Brad Richards that may make them frontrunners.

I like what the Oilers have done so far. Bringing in Eager, Hordichuk and Belanger. Some toughness and grit. And Barker could be a decent enough number 4 or 5 d-man

I've seen Hordichuck's play in Vancouver. He's useless. Nice guy, but can't contribute at all to scoring and isn't as physical a presence as you'd think. Eager's a good pickup though.

I really can't see Richards going to Philly or LA. LA has Kopitar, Mike Richards and Stoll centering the top 3 lines. They also don't need another long-term contract, which is apparently what Brad Richards wants.

The Flyers could use him but don't have much space and still have to sign Simmonds. Do they really want to give him a small contract that goes on for 10+ years, a la Mike Richards and Carter?

Considering Jagr will be 40 this season, I'm not sure they're sweating it too much. .

It sucks, but I'm happy to see Jagr back in the NHL. I have respect for Philly and usually route for them during the season as well.

But a Malkin, Crosby, Jagr PP unit would have been beastly.

Yeah...that's kinda where I was at...if he can still put up some points either 5X5 or PP, that's great - but I bet he gets worn down pretty quickly...

Dale Tallon has wasted no time in completely overhauling the Florida Panthers.

Saying Richards has 4 teams on his list. LA, Calgary, Toronto and NYR. And that he will choose one of them today.

Brad Richards has agreed to a 9 year, 58.5 million dollar contract with the NY Rangers.

Good luck to the Rangers who have never really benefited from large signings, maybe for one year with Gretzky in the 90s.

Wings looking at Ty Conklin for Howard's backup.

Don't know why the Canucks would sign Marco Sturm, his knees are blown and he just had surgery.

Also Mark Mancari adds some grit.

Well if his knees hold up I think you got a steal. He still has decent wheels and you'll love his attitude and the passion he brings.

Richards may well put the Rangers a step closer to a championship. Unfortunately for him, the Rangers aren't even close to the staircase.

Lol..the certainly don't have a very good track record do they?

I was surprised to see Calgary toss their hat in the ring as the trade talks wore on, but as I expected - it wound up being NY. Torts probably helped to seal the deal since Richards had the most success under his coaching...

I'm still scratching my heads over the goalie deal my Avs did - I mean I know the new tandem will be better than what we had, but man...overpay-city IMO!

Richards is like the only good looking girl in an ugly town. He's an 8 that got paid like a 10. His free agent timing is perfect.

Where Richards went isn't suprising but my God for that much? Oh and can i just say The Blues need to straighten up this ownership BS because only signing crappy players is getting annoying.

Still the Rangers can boast about beating of the ugly Canucks in 1994...Seems as if they've more closer to winning the Cup then the Canucks in their history.
