So, I'll probably get railed for this, but I have somewhat of a conspiracy theory regarding Alfred and the Nolan Trilogy, and it's based almost entirely on a hunch. Here me out...

The last time I watched TDK, the brief bit of dialogue Alfred and Harvey had at the fundraiser really jumped out at me. Allow me to paraphrase...

Harvey: "it's so great to finally meet you, Rachel has told me so much about you. She says you've known her for her whole life".
Alfred: "Well, not yet, sir."
(This exchange is immediately followed by the Joker's arrival.)

I've seen this film about 7 times now and I had never noticed that line before. It literally sent shivers down my spine. Did Alfred somehow know Rachel would die? Was Alfred the reason Joker knew about the fundraiser and was able to infiltrate the Penthouse? Or was this just subtle foreshadowing?

Let's just imagine Alfred as a villain. It almost feels blasphemous to think about. As far as I know he's NEVER been a bad guy before. It would be earth-shattering, people would freak out. It's a perfect way for Nolan to really do something different and original with the Batman mythos (which is near impossible to do).
And we all know if anyone could pull-off an evil Alfred, it's Micheal Caine.

So whaddaya think? Am I crazy? Or could I have something here?
I've searched online to see if anyone else noticed the creepiness of that line or had any conspiracy theories, it appears I'm alone so far.

Seriously though, that was just foreshadowing to me. I mean let's be hypothetical and say Alfred is evil, if that is revealed in TDKR I will say screw Nolan. This would be one thing I refuse to accept.

I think it had less to do with the Joker than Alfred's personal sentiments concerning Harvey.

It's just a hunch, but I feel like after watching both Bruce and Rachel grow up from children to adulthood, Alfred had developed some fatherly attachment to both. Due to that, he might've secretly hoped they would someday be romantically linked, and that their love would inspire Bruce to be a normal, healthy person, free from any remorse or anger that'd chained him down since his parents' death, that'd inevitably resulted in the birth of Batman. Unfortunately, that dream would quickly fade away by the entrance of Harvey Dent. So when Dent attempted to connect with Alfred, for the purpose of, I'm guessing, get a better chance at pursuing Rachel, it would seem that Alfred's limited response was really a gentle snub from the old butler. Likely he was unwilling to reveal more about himself, or of Rachel for Dent to gain an advantage over Bruce.

I bet most of his shots are indoor, be they in the Wayne Manor or in the newly built Batcave set. No messy stunts for our favorite butler

Unless Caine decides Batman is taking too long and goes all Harry Brown on Bane. That would ruin the movie but fun to see.

In a BIG "What If" story in the compilation comic "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader" Alfred was the one behind ALL of Batman's villains. He wanted Bruce to have a more exciting time as Batman and stop his depression, so he dressed up as theatrical styled villains. Anyone else remember that?

He hired his friend to play some of them and the guy went crazy and started killing people. Also I think Alfred pretended to be the Joker so Batman would have an arch rival.
