My thoughts exactly. Honestly most of DC new 52 female leading ladies revamp is just been ridiculous as they just become eye candy with no real character to them any longer like previously, Lois, Selina even Diana had more than just looks to their character before this reboot. Now all they serve a purpose to is being portrayed as ****s women who have no real character purpose as strong independent characters

I know it's to do with the comics code, but really, why would Catwoman realistically still have her bra and panties on just after sex, especially her panties? It's just like in some tv episodes you see that a woman has put her bra back on immediately after sex, as if they feel more comfortable like that. That would never really happen.

Please read Catwoman before judging one panel. I promise you'll be surprised with the actual depth. #2 especially, had an amazing cliffhanger. Quote:
Also, It's not really a necessity to take your bra off, if you're caught in the moment. ![]()

I never wanted to see sex between these characters, especially in costume. These new comics suck. These are archetypal figures being reduced to trash.
I was excited about the DC revamp but I seriously don't want to read these comics now that I know about their content. I'm in my mid twenties, and I still think it is inappropriate.

Give me depth without sex scenes and then we'll talk.

Nevertheless, don't throw the character out because the first issue had a sex scene. Give them a chance to pull back the reigns.

I'm getting the comic monthly, I just hope it gets better, I've heard Catwoman's not the only victim of this ****** "New 52" Re-launch.

That being said the way it's being written is kind of beating it over our heads "THEY HAD SEX! SEEE!" but all in all it doesn't take away her power as a woman to have sex with a man now if that's all they do with her character for the next year then there might be a problem. For now just chill. |

But it would be better to just have them lying in bed later on after the act, than showing them in the heat of passion.

Not gonna lie, I kind of knew something like this was coming when they said that Judd Winick would be writing Catwoman. This is the guy who threw in a random minion to casually have a sexual relationship with Talia, because Hey! Why the heck not? One of his flaws as a writer, which is a shame, is his tendency to throw sex into a story. Not so much romance, mostly just sex. He writes pretty good dialogue, and some of his work, especially Under the Red Hood, is good. But the second he started slipping the word "sexy" into every sentence during his interview about the book, you could practically hear the crazyiness coming around the bend.
I personally hope that Nolan's Catwoman has a bit more class. I prefer the classic femme-fatale versus the new crazy cat lady. I know that the character's got a fun, sultry personality, I just think that fewer writers today can tackle that side of the character without jumping off the slippery slope. And given Nolan's track record, I expect Catwoman will be a bit more faithful to the character. And it's not just Catwoman's actions that make me not pick up the book, it's Batman's as well. She (now, yet again, and why the heck are we repeating this?!?) doesn't know who Batman is, and he's now the type of a$$-h0le to take advantage of her now less-seductive-more-horny characterization, because now, apparently, he's got the impulse control of Green Arrow and the manners of a dog in at least two DCnU books, this and Detective Comics. And it's because of these changes in the status quo (not the continuity, which was left mostly in tact for Batman) that I refuse to buy most of the new 52's Batman line-up. Scott Snyder seems to be the only Batman writer to ignore this development, and his book rocks! I get that American society and pop-culture has gotten a lot more accustomed to reckless sex, but I thought DC's character's had standards. If I wanted to read about people making foolish decisions because its "cool", I'd read Green Arrow. Or 90% of Marvel. Sorry, I had to get that off my chest. Anyways, I'm hoping the Dark Knight Rises has some sequences between Selina Kyle and Miranda Tate, partially just to see the two female leads in the same scene, and partially to see two of Batman's great love interests ( a term that implies much more intimacy than simply participating in the horizontal mambo together) interact if Tate is in fact Talia. Who's with me? |

Winnick's Catwoman has actually been a lot of fun so far. Admittedly, the sex scene was a bit bewildering. But it didn't bother me as much as most readers.

Second, it is inappropriate. It doesn't advance the story in any way. You can tell the reader they did it without illustrating the whole scene. See Batman / Catwoman interactions in Dini's work for reference, which IMHO is much more romantic and (dare I say) sexy. Third, it is overboard. I suppose this should be expected when the name of the game for all entertainment these days is loss of subtlety, explosions everywhere, etc. They risk trivializing or undermining Batman / Catwoman's sexual tension by constantly flattening it. In my opinion it in fact trivializes their entire relationship - makes it a spectacle instead of drawing us in. Fourth, it is like a bad porno. Shouting dirty words at each other during sex? Doing it with the costumes on? Good grief, you've got to be kidding me. Fifth, it is just an inappropriate and exploitative way to use the characters. I think we've seen how the new comics are focused on Catwoman's body parts before we ever even see her face. I don't care if the comic has a good plot - these particular scenes are exploitative and cheapen the writing. They come off as teenage fantasies or bad fan fiction. The rest of the plot may well be a story feast but these scenes leave a bad taste in my mouth.

You've got to draw the line somewhere, and sex in mainstream comics, is crossing my line. Sex doesn't make a story edgy, IMO.

Batman and superhero stories in general have never been about sexual freedom. In a story where sex is a big part of the actual theme (and not just there to titillate the mainly male audience), then yeah, show nudity and sex full on or whatever. But in a superhero story where the main quandary is non-sexual morals and physical conflicts, it just comes off as exploitative.

Well Catwoman seems to be an exploitive comic so....Its really not that bad. Kinda funny but not pushing anything too far. Good for Wayne, get that tail. Now storywise...
