I always thought the aspect of having 40-60,000 people in the stands was more impressive than it being outside!

So why was Philly in this years? Besides Boston/Philly was the season before lasts. Last year was Pitts/Wash. Not to split hairs. I still think you need to get some Western Conf. teams involved in the WC and heck even a warm climate team like SJ at Detriot. That'd be a good match up.

As far as Sat and the Van/Bos game it was nice to finally see the Canucks show up and play a game in Boston. too bad it was 7 months too late.

Couple of observations.

A.) Marchand is looking at a minimum of 3 games for that cheap shot on Salo. No place in the game for that stuff.
B.) Nice the NHL recinded the game misconduct for Lucic after the game. Granted too little too late. He was on a line change and hell Vancouver had 7 guys on the ice before one of the sisters hopped off and 2 others on the bench pummeling Thornton.
C.) If Luongo had any stones he would have told Vigneault he was playing come hell or high water.

I'm an Islander fan for 30+ years and even I wouldnt want to see them show-cased on a national stage. At least not while owned by Charles Wang.

I believe Yankee Stadium is under contract for a college bowl game on or around New Year's Day the next few years, so you wouldnt see it until i think like 2015.

Maybe by then, the Islanders will be good, (likely not or we'll be playing in Seattle) but if they were to play in Yankee Stadium it would be against the Rangers. No way suburban Long Island's team is hosting a WC in NYC against someone else. Now if we were talking about CitiField.....

That's why again, a double-header in Yankee stadium could be huge. Islanders, Rangers, Devils, and whoever.

A)Agreed, just filthy. Guys like Marchand, Lapierre and even to a lesser degree players such as Torres should be reinventing themselves or leaving, because they just kill the game. Matt Cooke has sort of changed up his play. If he can, anyone can.
C) It's Schneider's hometown and he's never played an NHL game there before. Also, Vingneault comes under a lot of heat for bending to Luongo's wishes. It's better seeing that he can stand up to him than the other way around.

The rumours seem to be 2013 Detroit, 2014 Washington (they were promised to host one) and 2015 New York. Not going west could hurt the WC. It's great for the cities involved but outside them some fans may lose interest.

For the most part I have no problem with how Marchand plays the game. He plays with an edge, but it's funny that you throw him in with guys like Lapierre. At least Marchand doesn't start stuff and then back down. He sticks his nose in and keeps it there. And yes I know it was a Christmas miracle that Max Lap actually did fight in that game.

Going low is nothing new, heck Raymond did the same thing to marchand in the finals last year. But no penalty or suspension. I can only hope Shanny is going to set a blue print and stick to it, cause the league never did so before.

I have no issues with Marchand because he still plays with the soft old school shoulder pads, so when he hits someone, he doesn't have to kill them like all the other players nowadays that wear the new plastic "armour" pads...

Lapierre chirps a lot and will jab with his stick but he doesn't intentionally commit dangerous hits. Marchand does, is early on in his career and doesn't care if he hurts anyone. Big difference.

But he wears the old school soft padding.... anybody "seriously" getting hurt with those shouldn't be playing in the NHL...

I wish all the players went back to the soft padding... less nasty injuries, less concussion... imo.

Can the Islanders please be realigned to the Western Conference? We'd be unstoppable!

If the Jets can stay in the Southeast I'm for it!

Isles are 6-4-4 against the Western Conference, 4-1-1 against the Northwest Division. If they ever do end up in Kansas or Seattle well at least you know they'll do well.

That's an unproven theory designed only towards stopping concussions. Obviously medicine and detection has improved since players mostly stopped wearing soft padding, so there very well could have been an equal number of concussions back then, and players just took a couple more advils and got back at it.

And people "seriously" got hurt all the time back then. Bobby Orr's career got ended by attacks to his knee from stick or opposing knees, as the most famous example.

Hope the Blues can beat the Canuckleheads tomorrow. It would be a nice boost in the standings.

Crosby's skating with the team again, that's good news. But ohhh man, when he takes to the ice this time... it's going to be like watching that guy try to tightrope walk between the two airplanes...

Max Lap / definition / n. A unit of measurement of footspeed, used to gauge how quickly an individual can run away from a fight that the selfsame individual has caused. also see Matt Cooke

I kid, I kid, I'm a lifelong Canucks fan.

I was disappointed with Campbell in that fight. You actually get Lapierre to not only drop the gloves, but also take off his helmet and you don't lay a beating on him? For shame Campbell, for shame.

Such a sudden trade. I wonder if Rene Bourque is really the best they could get for him, but if Cammalari can find his former form, he'll be a huge asset trying to push Calgary into the playoffs.
