Iron Man vs Iron Man 2

On a side note...I felt IM1 had more humor and IM2 had more emotion.

Thought it was the other way around ^^^... but yeah I found IM2 more entertaining. The villains were weak in both films though. Mandarin needs to be close to Joker level.

I found the villains to easily be on par with the best in the genre. Perhaps only Heath's Joker might edge them out.

While the sequel had more interesting villians it also had the stupid drunken scene.

At first I hated the drunk scene, but after watching the movie a second time, I'm glad they put it in. I loved the emotion leading up to him getting drunk.

In the plane Tony wanted to cancel the party and spend his b-day with Pepper and right before the party he again wanted to cancel it and asked "Natalie" how she would spend her last birthday.

He knew he was dying so F-it he did what a lot of people may have done, get plastered and enjoy your last birthday.

I personally really enjoyed this one, but am I the only one who felt that Downey, i dunno, over-acted the role a bit? Don't get me wrong, Downey owns the role of Tony stark but there were times throughout this movie where I felt he just went a little too much with the improvised banter. There was one scene where Tony was talking to Pepper and Downey was constantly stepping on Paltrow's lines and interrupting her and I was just like "DUDE let her freakin talk for a second!!". I dunno, i guess its a minor annoyance but did anyone else feel like Downey over-did it a little here?

I registered something similar to that. It's as if the plan was to ratchet up Stark's schtick a few notches, since it was such a hit in the first film. Struck me as overkill more often than not. Enjoyable, no doubt, but I could have dealt with them dialing it back a little.

THANK YOU. Glad i'm not alone. I really think they should've dialed it down a bit. Although i guess Favreau was thinking "hey they loved the witty banter in the first one, let's give em a lot more in the second!". More is not always better in this case. You could tell even Paltrow was annoyed that her character couldn't speak for 5 seconds without Downey running all over her.

I guess there was a little bit of that, it's a fair point. Still didn't really dampen my enjoyment of the movie.

This. I see it strange that you saw it as that Ghost. But yeah when IM3 rolls around Mandarin not only has to be in it, but he has to be a huge threat. I also hope they explain the existence of the Ten Rings right and they show that they were in IM1 and IM2.

Anyway, Fav's definitely felt the pressure to up the ante and make a better film. I understand why he put so much into the film. Less is more though, but I still love Iron Man 2 and felt it was a good sequel.

Interesting. I felt the opposite was true. I felt he was darker in this film. He was certainly going through a lot more personally in the film, than in the last one.

So, I just finished watching Iron Man 1 again and I can honestly say I think 2 is an overall better movie. I thought the actor chosen for Rhodey in the first film was just very weak. And Iron Man himself was barely even in the movie. He only had one battle at full strength, a chase sequence and a final battle at half strength. That was it. It was more like Tony Stark: Special Guest Appearance by Iron Man.

I think the sequel was just overall better balanced.

That's how I feel. IM2 is more balanced but upped the anti in terms of action and intensity. The best thing about IM2 is that it took everything that worked in IM1 and added to it.

I'm gonna say tie, I think the sequel more than stood up to the first, and I think Downey Jr kills it as Stark in them both, so easier to be diplomatic on this one!

Obidiah Stane was a much better villain than Whiplash and Hammer combined.

Iron Man is a better film overall. I prefer the character arc and resolution. The second is very fun and it was great to see War Machine.

Ironman was far better in my opinion. It was fresh with a great story. The second one just sort of felt like a sequel

Iron Man was a great movie. And IM2 weas VERY so-so.

Iron Man 1 was the better film overall in my opinion, but the difference is not nearly as big as most people make it out to be.

Although Iron Man was better, IM2 definately felt more like an "Iron Man" film in terms of how much Tony actually used his armor and I enjoyed the increase in action and overall fun.

I remember only three Iron man apparitions. The first one was good, the second one was that 'friend fight' with Tony making drunk jokes and the third one that was more explosions than anything.

It might have been more, or with more expensive special effects, but the times in IM1 were so much better.

There were actually more blows thrown in the "friend fight" than the entire Iron Monger battle and the third one was an awesome flight scene topped off with the Hammer Drones battle (awesome) & Whiplash fight (average).

The amount of time he was actually in the Iron Man suit in the second film was MUCH longer than the first film.
