Default Has Goldeneye's popularity been influenced by the games?

At one time, I was under the impression that Goldeneye wasn't considered to be one of the better Bond movies. Decent but not a classic. But for example, on imdb, it's one of the higher rated Bonds, beating out all the George Lazenby, Roger Moore, and Timothy Dalton movies. On the other hand, all the other Pierce Brosnan movies are among the lowest rated Bonds.

I get the impression that due to Rare's Goldeneye being considered a classic in the fps genre, the movie it's based on is considered a classic by association. Does it stand up on its own? Or are a lot of its fans people who enjoy watching it to pick out the source of their favorite levels and characters?
