That's what I thought. But I prefer that he's caught up with Venom so that there's no-one attached to FF and that can go back to Marvel.

What an awful idea, I really hope that this movie doesn't happen. Trank showed talent, he should get a better gig than this.

Ah, the new flavor of the month. I give you Josh Trank, and he should make every comic book movie we can ever think of: Watchmen 2, Mandrake, The Phantom, Fantastic Four, Wolverine 2, Green Arrow, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern reboot, Hawkman, Batman reboot, third Hulk, Amazing Spider-Man 2, Captain America 2, Thor 2, Iron Man 3, Avengers 2, World's Finest, Justice League etc etc etc
But I thought Brad Bird was set to direct them all. I must have mixed things up. Sorry for that, folks! |

Venom can never work in his own movie. It will be full of fail.
I don't think this is official. If they are rebooting Spider-Man, why not just try rebooting Venom/Eddie Brock there as well?

This is my hope. Give Venom a proper go within the new Spidey franchise. Eddie Brock does deserve a good shot on the big screen so put him where he works best, as a Spider-Man villain. Solo is a no-go for me.

I don't think people want to see the same villains in every Spider-Man series of films. We know we have to get Green Goblin at some point in ASM. Lets save this new series for more villains we haven't gotten.

I think an R-rated Venom movie with Flash Thompson as the black ops version could be great.
But I doubt Sony would do an R-rated spin off to a Spider-man movie.

I think it would be cool if Flash uses Venom for a bunch of military missions and Venom starts to make him go rogue and the military tries to hunt him down.

Also, I don't think Venom needs to be the direct sequel to the reboot. If this new Spider-Man actually does well, plan ahead to make this maybe the 3rd or 4th movie down the line and do it right. That way we can get newer unseen villians in the Spider-Man franchise. I'd love to see black suit Spidey holding Shocker over the edge of the bell tower ala S-M: TAS |

I'd be ok with a solo Venom movie. The question is; what kind of movie will it be? It sure better avoid following Ghost Rider. I guess the tone of the film could be something between The Incredible Hulk and The Wolfman.

Hmm, I'm suprised by the reaction of this news. I would have thought people would be all over it. Oh well.

Personally, I do not want to see Venom in this new Spider-man series unless they take the time to really set up the character properly. Do not throw it all in just one film! Do not force your director (Webb or someone else) to find a place for something you think the fans want. Do it right Sony.

This is the only way i'd be interested in a solo Venom film. Flash Venom is the only version of the character who i've found interesting as a solo character.

All characters have potential, I'm a firm believer of the motto "no bad characters, just badly written ones". But for me, Brock Venom just shouldn't be a solo anti hero type. As for a film about him, doing it without his obsession and psychological link to Parker is ridiculously stupid. It takes away any potential at an interesting character. Venom should be a horror movie esque villain for Spidey, not a solo anti hero. The whole anti hero approach to the character was stupid and reeked of pandering to little kids who thought he looked cool and wanted to see more of him in his own adventures. Venom can work great as a re-occuring menace for Spidey. But the idea of him being a solo anti-hero was stupid in the comics and it's stupid as a film concept. If they do Flash Venom I hope they go all in. Remender's run lends itself perfectly to a Rated-R story. Hopefully, they do it in origin fashion in terms of how Flash get's to the point of becoming Venom: Government Soldier. If they are going to butcher the whole thing, it's pointless. Flash is a great character study at this point in time.
But, it's SONY we are talking about. I have absolutely no faith in them whatsoever. |

If they want to correct the mistake that was Venom in SM3, Eddie Brock is only way to go. But I agree with some of you who say the anti hero route would make Venom less interesting, and it would probably confuse people about who he actually is, and what he's about. The only way I see that sort of film working is if they do Flash Thompson, in which case I will just kill myself. They should stick to either the original Idea, of doing it on the symbiote planet, or maybe even go the ultimate route with Eddie Brock. im not getting too hyped about this. Been waiting for it for how many years now? It will probably fail again, and this makes me a sad Venom fan.

As much as I would like to say they should go with the older Venom stories and origins, Flash would probably make the better movie. Venoms a great comic right now. Brock cant work without Parker imo. Without Venom Brocks hate for Spidey and Parker I just dont think it would work that well and just disappoint Venom fans in the end.

Flash Venom is the most interesting version of Venom as an anti hero. I think a movie about him could work really well. But still, you need that link to Parker.

I think that Parker link with Brock is much more important. I could see ways around the link with Flash.

I sincerely feel that Eddie Brock got a decent treatment in Spider-Man 3. The core story for Venom is the black costume, Brock getting the suit, and going after Spider-Man. The core of the character is a petty, selfish man and a petty, jilted alien. We got that in Spider-Man 3. Everything else is just details.
