Damn, I can't believe I just heard about this today.. this is looking awesome. This is how you do a live action anime.. Japan should handle ALL the adaptations. I haven't watched it for years, but Sanosuke was always my favorite.. glad to see he's in it

I bought 13 Assassins a while back, and all I could think of while watching it was "live action Samurai Champloo".

The funny thing is that WB is financing this movie. So it's backed/produced by Hollywood money but handled by a Japanese studio.

That's exactly what they should have done with Akira only with a bigger name Asian director. Oh WB.

And now apparently WB is trying to get a Bleach movie going.. only produced and directed by an American director.

Yup. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

Trying to Americanize/Westernize inherently Japanese pieces of works will never work. Bleach, Akira, & Ninja Scroll need to be handled by Japanese/Asian directors or go the Universal route with hiring a western director (Carl Erik Rinsch) with a Japanese cast (47 Ronin).

If they wanted something easier to handle with actual white characters they should have tried buying the filming rights for Full Metal Alchemist.

Looks better and better with each bit of new footage we get. The scene where Kenshin is running circles around those guys was incredible. I seriously hope this turns out to be good.

I'm very excited for this. Though it does look like they're trying shove in quite a bit already they have Kanryu, Saito, Jin-e, and signs of Kiyosato in there as well.

Although, I'm looking forward to a sequel even more. I really want to see Shishio.

I wonder how long it'll take to get it subtitled and released in the US.. end of the year, maybe? I dunno how long the delay for international releases usually is.

Considering that it's coming out at the end of the year in Japan, I'm not going to hold my breath for it.

It kind of does seem like they're stuffing quite a bit for the first movie. Hopefully it works out though and it's not to jarring.

Man does that look great. My only tiny complaint is that I wish the room in which Takeda uses the Gatling gun would be more expansive looking as it did in the anime.

Other than that it looks pretty darn perfect. WB should take note as they are producing this and smarten up and have Takashi Miike or Kazuaki Kiriya direct Bleach with a modestly big budget (75-90 million) and he'll whip up something incredible.

Having in mind the director from Nutty Proffessor 2 is just such a failure that it gives me a headache just thinking about it. So I really hope they scrap him and get Japanese talent on board instead.

I'm liking the use of Takeda and Jin-E, namely the latter because he was one of my favorite villains in the series. I wish they would save Takeda though, just to have him with Aoshi Shinomori and his group. But that's just me nitpicking.

I only saw this today! Unbelievable. I only used to read the manga. But now that I see the live action movie I really want to watch it. can't wait until August....or whenever it comes out over here.

Definitely, that'd be awesome. I bought 13 Assassins a while back and I kept thinking of Samurai Champloo while watching it. The thing with Bleach, is not ALL the characters should be played by Japanese actors... it needs a multi-racial cast.

I agree with you about the casting remark Goblin. The cast should definitely be multi-racial with a more well versed Japanese/Korean director. They have the visual panache and a better understanding of these characters to a degree where the movie would be pretty darn good in all likelihood.

Definitely with you on the multi racial aspect of the cast seeing as some of the characters are clearly inspired by other cultures on their looks and names alone. Even then there are characters like Ichigo and Orihime who are natural red heads so they'd need a white or a half white/asian actor regardless of their Japanese names.

They even make a point about it in the first chapter where Ichigo says that people constantly think he's dyed his hair when in fact he's just a natural born redhead.

It would take a nuance take on casting and a very courageous director with a fidelity to the material.

Watching the new Kyoto OVA right now. So far I find it to be far too choppy and it's really weird seeing Shishio and Yumi having sex. Kenshin vs. Cho goes way too fast.
