John Lone, mainly because he is good at playing villians.

Ever see Rush Hour 2? He played the main villian, and he was Siwan Khan in The Shadow.

I never noticed him in Rush Hour 2. He wouldn't be a bad choice. Better than Rain from Ninja Assassin

Hi everyone. I'm not great at Photoshop so I did a sketch of how I think the Mandarin should be like in Iron Man 3. He's basically Tony Leung as an evil Chinese Stark with ten vibranium rings inserted into his spine, giving him his powers. Comments here and on DA appreciated; http://alientraveller.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2xjjue

I don't like the idea of a Chinese Stark, and certainly not rings in his spine. I'd want rings on his fingers and for the Mandarin not to be simply a business man. I'm not saying he has to look like Fu Manchu, but if he gets away from what makes him the Mandarin, then it's no longer the character. Even modern Chinese people sometimes wear ceremonial robes or traditional Chinese dress. That would hardly be racist.

Don't know where the idea got started that robes are somehow integral to the Mandarin's character. In the comics, he only wore robes for a couple of appearances in the nineties.
Originally, he wore kung fu pajamas, almost a ninja outfit from the neck down, but with a supervillainy headpiece. In the seventies and eighties he wore a barbariany looking outfit. In the 2000's he's been mostly in a business suit There is nothing vital or historically important about putting him in robes. |

The robes he may wear as a sign of his eccentricity a couple times I would think, but for the most part modern attire should be cool.

I'd be cool with him just wearing a suit most of the time. Maybe have him wear the robes as a nod to the comics in one scene.

I could live with Japanese (Ken Watanabe) or Korean actor as Mandarin. The actor has to have charisma and that badboy look saying "I'm Mandarin. While Doom use laser and Magneto conjure his mutant power from afar, I prefer kicking your ass directly with my kungfu". Watanabe while may have the charisma is going to be seen as slightly overweight as a kungfu practitioner.

The Mandarin is half-white, so they should get someone half-white to play him.

I think Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa would be my choice. I'm sure it's not a favorite and MK movies did suck for the most part. But I think he is the guy, for me.
